2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's tough, basketball, 1 or 2 players can REALLY change your team's fortunes. Compared to Football or Baseball.. just different.

Your point is even more important when chasing rings. Outside of a very few teams like Seattle in 1979 or Detroit in 2004 teams really need a transcendental star to win rings.

You can't spread Jordan or LeBron or Duncan or Kareem over 30 teams.

I personally wish there was a Franchise Tag in the NBA applying to teams who drafted a certain star.

These guys can live and travel anywhere they want in the offseason, but it stinks to watch a star you actually draft bolt pre-prime to collude with other stars.

Obviously the tag would have large cost-escalation incentives for the player, but either way, if a team is willing to pay, they can keep a player.

It's much worse now. all the teams in the lottery tank now. not just 1-3. It's blatant.

I get the sense that some teams rather get in the lottery than fight for the 8th seed.

The 8th worst record last year (Nets) gave the Cavs a 2.8% chance of landing the #1 pick while the Pelicans who are sitting with the 8th worst record have a 5.3% chance of winning the #1 pick. It doesn't prevent tanking it just prevents certain teams (Philly) from being so bad they make it an eye sore and force the league to address it publicly in the media hence why Hinkie was sacrificed as he did it across multiple seasons. So tank away but just make sure you don't make it a problem for league offices and Adam Silver.

Financial incentive of making the playoffs and the excitement of the fan base outweigh a 0.5-1.5% of winning the lottery so I disagree there.

I think this summer is important to changing the CBA rules next time around. If teams decide to hold on to their money for star players like the Lakers have then I could see a faction build with in the players association. The league is turning into rosters with max slot players and mininium/rookie players, with little inbetween. Star players have had their turn being head of the players union. I think the mid-level players could band together to pass a CBA less friendly to max players if their own salary don't take a equal jump.

Would be really cool if there was some kind of system where teams that repeatedly go into the lottery get their odds reduced each season they arnt in the playoffs or something like that, would encourage teams to make the playoffs cause their lottery odds would “reset”

I'd say the tanking has gone pretty spectacularly this year.

Anyone have any complaints with how it went?

We managed to unearth an actual building block at the #8 dead zone and have tanked to top 3 odds the following year. Not sure how it could have gone much better.

Come on suns!!!
within a basket with under 3 minutes...I would love to be in a situation where there is a coin toss to determine the 2nd place. That being said Pelicans must be hardcore tanking. Thanks ahead of time to the Pelicans

I think the sun's stopped trying

Edit.... Hold the lead!

I think that specific technical should eliminate Phoenix from the lottery.
