2018 Around the MLB Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why would Kershaw take a 3 yr deal? I understand it's over $30m per, but wouldn't he want to lock in some longer term security given the fact that he seems to be wearing down a bit?

No one, other than LA is giving him 30/yr for longer than 3.

Yanks get Paxton

Underwhelming return for Seattle to be honest....

Interested to see how the Indians counter this

Think it really helps the Indians that Paxton was moved really early. Teams are gonna see what Corbin is asking for on the open market and then call the Tribe.

Plus, I think the Indians would want to send Kluber/Carrasco to the NL and the top suitors for a great return are still there-- San Diego, Cincinnati, LA, Milwaukee and Atlanta.

Yep, that kills Kluber to NY pretty much. He'll still be marketed, but I'm kind of glad we aren't giving him to the fuckin' Yankees. Atlanta and Philly seem like two interesting teams that we could make a move with.

While I think it makes a trade to the Yankees less likely, I still wouldn't completely rule them out. They still have plenty of ammo and I think another starter would be their biggest need.

I agree with that. Paxston is a nice addition, but he does have durability issues and isn't an ace like Kluber or Carrasco. I would think they go after Corbin in free agency, but they may still take another run at one of our guys.

And it starts. Paxton, possibly Corbin, Machado likely. Hell, why dont they just go ahead and sign Bryce Harper to. Then sign Kimbrel away from Boston. Im so tired of this bullshit every year. Trading prospects they dont give two shits about. Its a joke.

Still not winning it all.

James Paxton's splits last season:

At pitcher's friendly Safeco Field: 14 GP, 3.35 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, .210 OP BA, 5.89 SO/W
Away from Safeco: 14 GP, 4.24 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, .240 OP BA, 4.17 SO/W

Have fun pitching half your games at Yankee Stadium, Paxton. I think he's a good starter, he'd definitely slot in well as the 4th/5th guy for the Tribe, but I don't think he moves the needle that much for the Yankees. I hope that they think he's all they need and they stand pat on starters the rest of the way and roll with Severino/Paxton/Gray/Tanaka/Montgomery next year, because in a hypothetical playoff matchup, that really does not scare me a ton.

8pm is the deadline for the 40 man roster so we shall see a flurry of minor moves today and the waiver wire will be busy as well in the next few days as well.

Do you have a 40 man roster fetish or something? :chuckle:

I swear that half your post on the Indians board are having to do with the 40 man roster.

Naw, I just keep track of everything going around the league and also timing of when a player is added matters as well especially during the off season. Today is kind of the deadline to set the 40 man roster which will effect the Rule 5 draft next month. Not really super important, but teams will be making moves today and the next few days cause of it.
