2018 Browns Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think they need to sign another WR at all. Landry is the veteran addition of the offseason.

Gordon, Landry, Coleman are fine as a top 3. They can still address the position with a top 65 pick if they are so inclined or they can keep developing Louis and Higgins if they want.

Some people covering the Browns doubt Coleman, Louis, and Higgins are assured a roster spot in 2018. Opportunities we're there, production wasn't. I believe drafting a receiver is more likely, but if the quality is out there on the market, the Browns should spend the money.

Higgins had a strong finish to the season. I can see Louis being a Special Teams guy. I really don't see the appeal with Pryor. We know his a huge personality on the sidelines and in the locker room and he's been dealing with injuries the last 3 seasons basically.

With our current roster I dont see a receiver coming to Cleveland unless Coleman gets cut or traded.

I see allot of speculation that is going to happen, but I am hoping it doesnt. With a recovered Gordon and now Landry we have one of the top 3 receivers in the league and one of the top 3 slot guys in the league. Throw in a top 3 backfield receiver in Duke and an emerging stud at TE and we wont be a top destination for any remaining WR unless they are desperate.

I don't see them cutting Coleman, at least not this year. I'm still a believer he comes along quite nicely though, assuming he can stay somewhat healthy. I don't even see them cutting Higgins and Louis until possibly the first 53. Higgins and Louis haven't impressed at all, but they've also had Deshone Kizer throwing them the ball. Gordon didn't even look that great last year.

With all that said, I'm in favor of drafting somebody probably with the last 2nd or a 4th to develop and not have any real expectations on for a year or two.

A lot depends on Coleman’s involvement in that assault case. At first the victim said Coleman wasn’t involved but then changed his story to say he led the group that beat him.

Sounds real suspicious. I thought he was cleared based on camera evidence?

After being out of football several years and having a a historically bad QB throwing to him, Gordon came back mid-season yet was on pace for 1,100 receiving yards if he played in all 11 games. Further he had 18.6 yards a reception which would have led the league if he had enough receptions to qualify. (he needed 12 more)

The issue...as you pointed out...is he cough 41% of his targets and was not targeted enough. In the past he caught 53% of targets from not so great qb's, just not as bad as Kizer.

Actually Gordon looked just fine, it was surprisingly the QB that looked bad, lol.

Coleman has not been charged and said he did not hit the guy but admitted he was there with his brother and roommate. The brother was charged and is on trail again after a hung jury.

The inclusion of Corey being the leader came at the time the guy has a civil suite against the Coleman brothers and apartment complex. Without even charging Coleman, I doubt anything comes of this, but a poor decision on his part for sure.

Wasn’t the old saying that WRs take 3 years to “get it” in the NFL. 2018 is the make or break for Corey. With JG and Landry, he won’t be depended on nearly as much.

Why not? They’ve got $70+ mil in cap space and whoever they add wouldn’t be super expensive. You can’t really count on Gordon, and Coleman hasn’t proven to be anything special at all.

It's more nuanced than that.

Sure the Browns can't rely on Gordon or Coleman with 100% certainty, but to a free agent? Those guys are here.

Any free agent WR the Browns attempt to sign is going to look at the depth chart and say to himself "well I'm looking at being the 3rd or 4th WR" which isn't a super appealing proposition for a lot of guys.

If they really want add to this group, then just draft a kid.
