2018 Browns Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If we don’t add anyone else I can’t see how I can hurt. I don’t want to go into the season with Larry o, Brantley meder and a rookie.

Is he really any different than Danny Shelton?

I would say yes when Hankins came into the league. A little smaller, quicker and lighter on his feet and less of a run stopper but today they are probably pretty close.

Our fellow Browns fans arent ready to admit Peppers was a tragic waste of a pick. Give it time...

I want to see Peppers thrive/fail in a position he at least has a chance to succeed in before I deem him a waste.

If he can't handle strong safety... then we have a problem.

Yeah, after one year in which Gregg Williams played him in the position in which he was least likely to succeed, I'm nowhere near ready to call him a waste of a pick.

Play him in a spot in which he can actually succeed, starting with a lil closer than 30 yards off the line of scrimmage, first.

I hear this all the time and I feel like it's a buffer argument because deep down we all know the truth.

Not big enough to cover TEs. Not an in the box safety against NFL talent. Takes bad angles in pursuit. Ideally he's a corner but do you man him up on NFL WRs? Not a chance.

I think there's a reason he was playing way too deep CF last year, they had no idea what else to do with him. He had no position coming into the draft and guess what, he still doesnt.

What's left? Mediocre punt returns...

He’d probably be a better RB IMO.

He should put on about 10 pounds and try and play OLB. if Collins has another disappointing year I can see him being let go after this year.

That’s a dying position anyway. Looks all all the safeties out there still in free agency who can’t cover. The league is treading away from that.

That's a different argument. The statement was that he can't play in the box at the NFL level -- I'm just trying to figure out how anyone could conclude that at this point given that he very rarely played in the box.

Also, safety is a tough position at which to excel as a rookie, because you need to be able to read and diagnose NFL plays quickly. I remember that a lot of people assumed Troy Polamalu was a bust in Pittsburgh after his rookie season at SS.

That obviously changed.

How did you conclude that?

Dude didnt tackle JT Barrett his whole career... :chuckle:

Look, I get it. This is a Browns board and we ride for our picks until they're dead and buried. I was out on the 6' 200lb positionless hybrid from the start and saw nothing last year that changes my mind.

He'll probably get another year regardless, which is why I said 'give it time', but I do think a proven, legitimate SS would be a big help next to Randall. Both Peppers and Kindred do have a history of missing time, and there are plenty of safeties looking for work.

Hell, maybe that would allow them to move Peppers around in a Honey Badger type role, at which I'm betting he fails because again, he doesnt have an NFL position.

This doesn't reek like Buckeye honk at all.
