2018 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I knew this would be out of the news cycle within a week. OSU just had to slow play this and get it out of the court of public opinion. It will be a suspension, a new "zero tolerence" statement, and onwards and upwards. I think it will be 2 games from what I have read.

Well played by the Buckeyes.

A two game suspension for what?

I'm not down with a 2 game suspension either. If Urban did his job and reported it up the food chain, it's off his plate. If he had tried to play Mr. investigator and met with Courtney Smith, people could just as easily have interpreted that as him trying to push his weight around and pressure her into taking one action or the other.

In this situation, I'd imagine a suspension would be because Meyer didn't necessarily break a hard and fast rule but might not have done everything he could have to press for a resolution.

If he did do everything he possibly could have and it died on the vine with someone else, I'd imagine he won't be suspended and whoever dropped the ball will be let go or suspended.

Hopefully this is just a public reaction phase. Started with his head on a spike. Realized that was too much, so now walking it back to a suspension. Hopefully people will soon realize that a suspension makes little to no sense in this situation and they will just accept a full reinstatement.

No one likes the waiting game. I just want the goddamn committee report and university response already — for better or worse.

Man fuck that. A suspension does nothing but appease the mob.
And a 2 game suspension would just be for Oregon State and Rutgers, 2 of the easiest teams on OSUs schedule, but he'd be back for TCU, and everyone would say it's a BS suspension. If they suspend him for appearances sake, they probably have to do at least 3 games to make it mean anything.

No one will be satisfied; even if they do 3 it’ll be “oh of course he’s back in time for PSU.”

I agree not sure how they can suspend him if he followed the protocol. I could see a fine or maybe a 1 game suspension and have it related to the media comments he made and the damage he made by making misleading statements.

Also, unless they can uncover someone not following the process not sure if anyone gets fired from this. I have to imagin there are legal issues on doing both.

Yeah, if they suspend Urban for multiple games, it likely would be without pay, and he might well challenge that as a violation of his contract because that is a lot of money.

Exactly. 2 game suspension would just be bad PR because the first 2 games are a cakewalk anyway.

I mean, I wouldn't bitch too much about it because it wouldn't hurt in the short or the long term, I just think it's really stupid. And very likely unjust.

Assuming we sit two weeks from now, report is released and there's not a whole lot there.....

A 1 game suspension and Meyer donating his week check to a charity that reps / helps domestic violence victims would quash everything IMO. Meyer can make a statement he and others can always do better, etc. and it can be put to bed.

I think the worst thing OSU can do, regardless of personal thoughts, would be to just re-instate him and get behind the "there were no arrests" line. I'm not saying it's right but that will be a PR disaster......or I would guess it would be.

To do nothing, in a situation like this, requires every box be checked (every person did the right thing, Courtney was or is likely lying, Zach went to counseling, etc, etc, etc) and if you are OSU, anything less than that is not worth this being litigated by the media / general public all season.

You can argue whether the above is fair or not but it's probably the reality of situations like this.
