2018 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why do you say this?

I mean, I don't know for sure how it'll turn out. But a lot of teams tried to pry him away. He's young and forward thinking offensively. If he can recruit, I think it's a good hire.

I haven't been enamored with his offensive scheme, for one, and two, I think he did a pretty lousy job this year filling in for Urban. He allowed things to happen that Urban had to come in and fix, and even then, they were still issues *most notable among these is the mess the defense had become*

We shall see, but they would have been better off going for Matt Campbell or another rising star coach. Not sure Day has shown enough to be handed this job.

I’m EXTREMELY tentative to give the title of CEO to someone who has never built a program, never worn the title or built the staff.

He doesn’t have the recruiting clout a Meyer has, and it’s integral to his success that he makes that happen.

I’d be interested to see if the core recruiting team and strength and conditioning team, who came in with Urban, will continue in their same role to keep the momentum of the recruiting and development train in tact.

Very crucial time.

I'm interested to see how this will impact recruiting. Will we lose guys? Will guys decide to de-commit? It'll be interesting to see where this goes.
One guy you can definitely cross off the 2019 commitment list is Jordan Battle.

Key passage from Pete Thamel's latest. Keeping all these support staffers on board is HUGE:

All indications point to Day planning to keep veteran strength coach Mickey Marotti, director of operations Brian Voltolini, respected personnel director Mark Pantoni and player development director Ryan Stamper.

Day would certainly have say over staff decisions, but the general notion of keeping the off-field machine Meyer put into place has to be an attractive one.

Marotti is considered one of the top-five strength coaches in the country, Voltolini has helped Meyer build programs since his early days at Bowling Green and Pantoni is the most respected personnel director in college football. Stamper is a key figure behind the scenes in Columbus.

I know the players love this guy, just seems like a big step for a dude without HC experience.

Lot of Stoops to Riley similarities. Well oiled machine just changing its operator.

I’ll be curious to see who he brings in to replace himself and what happens to Schiano.

This is not a surprise. Also, don’t know how I feel about Day taking over.
The last time this happened Florida legend Will Muschamp who was also never a HC took over for Urban. We will know if this was a good move in a month if players start decommitting.

I don’t mind the thought of retaining Kevin Wilson if it’s mutually agreeable for both sides.

Send Bill Davis and Schiano our; then let’s see.

Lots of interesting tests on the schedule next season, at least in terms of the B1G (non-con is FAU, Cincy and Miami of Ohio). Starting September 28th, they go at Nebraska, home against Michigan State, bye, at Northwestern, home against Wisconsin. They close the last two weeks of the season with a home game against Penn State and then a roadie at Michigan. Those are a lot of land mines.

I wonder if he is retiring completely or if he will still be involved in the program in some fashion. Maybe an advisory or recruiting role.
