I'll tell you the name of a guy who had a nice preseason game for himself:

Backup safety Derron Smith.

In special teams he made a tackle, drew a penalty, and caused a lot of collisions. Then when he joined the second string defense he made some stops on an island. It's hard to judge how he performed in pass defense because Davis Webb was so inaccurate, but there is a fourth safety spot available on this roster and Smith did everything he could to keep that spot.

He was waived a couple days after the draft. Baltimore picked him up.

The offensive line underperformed last season even before Joe Thomas was injured given the talent they had.

After that, it was a nightmare.

Now, I see a lot of talent on the line and the second team contains players who have had semi-successful moments in real NFL games.

Simply, there is no reason for them to struggle so much in that preseason game.

I think I’m starting to be convinced that Bob Wylie is not a good offensive line coach. Every single player has seemingly gotten worse since his hiring.

Not that I really care either way, but extra conditioning is absolutely used as a form of punishment on the football field. You must not have played. Also, what rules did Callaway break? Honestly, who gives a fuck? All I care about is winning.

I skipped a few or 3 but since the Browns actually have a decent team maybe it's worth getting and have fun using them

Well, I haven't had a console in like three years so this is the first one I've played in ages too since it's on PC this year. I'm still getting used to all the mechanics. Downloaded it last night so I've done a bit of training, played my first preseason game in franchise, and just finished up an hour or two of ultimate team. Seems enjoyable enough, but I'll know more once I get used to all the mechanics, the timing, navigating the menus, etc.

I technically have the Hall of Fame version, though, since I just signed up for Origin Access Premium (15 bucks a month and you get access to any EA game and a bunch of non-EA games) and that version is included. It made my ultimate team pretty awesome from the start because you get a bunch of gold packs that give you some less shitty starting options (you get a bunch of 70-80 guys instead of 60-70).

Curious about Gaines’ lack of ascension on a depth chart which was considered weak last season; he was a plus starter if not asked to be the primary cover guy and it kind of seems like he’s behind a little.

Have I missed anything with that?

In the first preseason game he gave up a lot of space to receivers. I don't know if he isn't in the physical condition he was in last season, but I've been dissatisfied.
