2018 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Michigan is more like Michigan State than they are Maryland, from a scheme perspective.

They don't play that downhill style which has washed out the LBs and given them fits all year.

That's my one bright hope for how they're able to contain them defensively. Offensively I think it will be a massive struggle.

I think this is spot on. I think Michigan is going to try and play a slower grind it out game which fits our team better against our defense. I think we need play a conservative style on defense, avoid the big plays even if it allows them to put up a ton of yards. I also love that we added more RPO with Haskins last week, it puts something else on tape for Michigan, and I think it could be effective on certain plays with how aggressive there front 7 is. It is also one of those games it will be so important to get off to a fast start, keep the crowd in it, and force Michigan to defend the pass and rush. If Michigan gets out to a early lead like we let Maryland and Nebraska do we dont have a chance. We just don't have a good match up at all with Michigan if we have to pass it a ton. We need to be balanced.

Rumor has it Urban will retire after the season due to health.. Don't have a direct source but the word is circulating the usual insider forums.

Matt Campbell would be the presumptive next in line.

Yeah, heard it originated from Nevada.

It did, and it’s not wholly ridiculous.

Obviously one would need to be very skeptical and take it with a grain of salt.

His post left plenty of room to hedge.

At the end of the day, it’s an inevitable reality for a guy whose said he doesn’t want to coach into old age and has already been having some health problems.

Rest assured, if he does step away, Nevada will try to spin it as Gene Smiths fault out of a personal vendetta.

I brought this up a few weeks ago, Urban is not coming back. He is done. Also, if OSU wins out they won’t even make the playoffs. Urb got done dirty by national media as a result of a hack reporter, lack of backing by the board, Smith and the President. Time to move on from him. Program is what’s important.

Big games tonight. If things go right, both the Big 12 and Pac 12 could be eliminated from the playoff.

Matt Campbell would be the presumptive next in line.

As someone who has thought Urban is gone for a while now, I've talked myself into Campbell and I think I'd be okay with starting that new era, although somewhat worried about the hit recruiting would take.

Campbell would be an ace, here.

He walks and talks like a future superstar in this business. Just go watch him talk to his team, you can tell he’s a guy who values motivation a great deal.

Similar to Urban who takes a psychological approach to meeting recruits and their families.

Really think he’s the next great coach in waiting.

That's what I wanted to hear.

So we need a Washington State loss, Oklahoma loss, Georgia loss, Texas win the Big 12, UCF lost their best player today even though they won so they're finished, and we need to have a very convincing tomorrow and we have a really legit shot getting into that #4 spot if we win the Big 10 correct?

I don't understand how every B12 defense is such a damn joke. 49-45 West Virginia at the end of the 3rd. One of those teams might get into the 70s.

Alabama, Clemson, whoever would roll the hell out of Oklahoma.

Both teams we need to lose tonight (Oklahoma & Wash St) are both losing, so that's cool at least.

Don't think that's true. If Oklahoma and Washington State both lose tonight like they are currently doing, we win out and beat Michigan, we definitely get in. It would be the biggest sham in college football history if we got left out as a one loss BIG-10 champion under those circumstances.

Only way it would happen after that is if Alabama chokes to Georgia in the SEC championship again and they pull the same shit as last year, but the committee got blasted for doing that so I doubt it'll happen. We almost got in last year as a two loss BIG champ. We'd definitely get in as a one loss.

None of the Big 12 teams deserves to make the playoff. Defense is optional.
