2018 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oklahoma only has one ranked win. It was last night against West Virginia. They've already lost to Texas who the play in the Big 12 title game. I don't even know how they're ranked ahead of us right now.

Ohio State is definitely jumping Oklahoma. I wouldn’t worry about it. OSU will be 5 Tuesday and they’ll just need Bama to take care of business to be in.

Still don’t feel good at all about OSU’s potential chances in the playoffs, but I don’t see how anyone in their right mind could put OU in over them. At a bare minimum, they should leapfrog LSU, OU, and UCF when the new rankings come out - and this is without knowing what the outcome of USC-ND will be. If USC takes care of business, I think they’re a lock, assuming they beat Northwestern.

If chalk holds up... on Tuesday I see it being:

1) Alabama
2) Clemson
3) Notre Dame
4) Georgia
5) Oklahoma
6) Ohio State

#7 and beyond doesn't really matter. LSU is currently losing to A&M and I think that will hold. Michigan is done. Wazzou is done. UCF was a super long shot and that was before their QB got hurt... no way they get legit consideration now.

Still feel like USC or Texas need to help us out to get in. And USC is falling apart as I type this.

I think OSU will jump Oklahoma. Even with the Purdue loss, their resume is better. BIG12 is dog shit and Oklahoma didn’t play anyone out of conference. They lost to the only other decent team in their conference (should have also lost 2-3 other times).

OSU doesn’t have a perfect resume but assuming Michigan stays in the top 10, they’ll have a much better resume than OU.

Man, I want to agree and I hope I'm wrong... I just don't trust this committee to catapult Ohio State from 10 to 5 and leave OU at 6 because of one game... as good as it's win over Michigan was. Oklahoma beat a good WV team on the road this week too. If they played, say Kansas, I could see it. I guess it all depends how high this committee was on Michigan and their perception of Ohio State after beating them in the fashion they did.

I agree completely...

Oklahoma gives up 40 points a game!! Does the committee even care about that?

If you look at the small things, OSU had about as good of a day as possible.

Tulane beat Navy to become bowl eligible.

Minny beat Wisconsin to become bowl eligible.

Purdue beat Indiana to get bowl eligible (at least our loss isn’t quite as bad on paper anymore since Purdue is bowl eligible).

TCU best Okie State to become bowl eligible as well.

Mich State held on to win an ugly game against Rutgers which helps our SOS and may get them on fringe of top 25.

PSU won big which will move them to top 10 I believe.

And Northwestern won which was big because it should push them to around #16 or #15 for Big 10 championship.

OSU has beat significantly more bowl eligible teams than OU. Will be interesting to see how next few weeks shake out.

Also awkward as hell OSU is in a position to root for Texas/Herman. Urban Meyer would prob rather get left out of playoff than root for Herman.....

I am going to put it in the most (depressing) terms possible.

If Notre Dame, OSU, or OU beat Alabama, as they are constructed, this year? They are probably "jumping" 02 OSU, 05 Texas as a team that had the greatest "upset" in that context.

It would be up there with the 1980 US Olympic team beating the Soviets, The Daytona/Indianapolis 500s which were won with hotel show cars, or Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson.

That''s pretty much what we're arguing for at this point.

A&M 74, LSU 72

F/7OT

Holy shit.

OSU’s best win is better than OU’s best win.

OSU’s loss is worse than OU’s loss.

OSU’s defense is better than OU’s defense.

OU’s offense is the only one better than OSU’s offense.

These are just a few of the points in the debate. There are plenty more.

Gonna be interesting to see how the committee makes their decision.

OSU's 2nd best win is also better than OU's best win.

OSU also beat more ranked teams and more bowl teams and had a better SOS as a whole.

Fairly confident that OSU would lay an easy 65-70 on Oklahoma. Their defense is one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

I hope this doesn't get me lit up as being anti-sec, and a conspiracy theorist.
But...I indeed have a potential theory.

Do you think it's possible that the SEC would find ways of ensuring Georgia wins the SEC title next Saturday?

Alabama is pretty much an autobid at this point. They could lose and you'll still have ESPN, Gary Danielson and Co. pounding the desk for them. So there is no concern for them not being in it.

The reason I think this happens is it's guaranteed an exta boost of revenue for the conference, and most importantly? Disney/ESPN who has a lot invested in the success of the conference.

The way the season is going we lose to Northwestern
