2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Every single guy on that list needs to make a leap forward to be considered an "elite" QB prospect.

Darnold does have mechanical issues, as does Rosen.

Both need to improve and consistently show improvement for me.

But they've got as much if not more talent than anyone to come out in quite some time. That said, so does Kizer since he'd be included in that group heading into this season.
Yep, all these guys have a great physical/talent base to work from but must make strides this college football season to look like a first overall pick.

Just to add, Allen has a quick/compact release. However, his accuracy needs to improve as he had bouts of inconsistency in his first year starting.

You know where I stand on him, however. He's the guy I'm pulling for.

That's really the key point, isn't it? Every year, a lot of guys who go into the season as prospective "top picks" as QB fall. Others rise, but usually not to the same extent.

Still good to know that we'll have enough ammo to outbid anyone else if someone holding a top QB draft slot is willing to trade out of it.

We very well may have drafted the QB who would have gone #1 overall next year this year.

It's asinine to put a 7 win team as the top pick. Horrible reporting.

Back to back number 1 overall picks? Can't see Jimmy taking that kindly

Seems super unlikely to me. We have easily had the worst overall record since the return and have only picked #1 two other times (other than the expansion year). And one of those came just after the team came back and was horrendous.

The NFL requires an amount of suck that is unmatched for the 16 game window. We have had some truly awful teams that didn't pick in the top 3, let alone #1.

Only thing we should be cheering for is for all 3 of these guys to make the leap. Browns have the capital to move up but the worst case scenario is always the Luck year. Where a team unexpectedly bottoms out, has a franchise QB fall in their lap and the Browns end up with someone they don't want or another trade down.

Any of those TEs top notch in line blockers while still having decent athleticism?

Having an elite TE room for 4-5 room is one way to make things much easier on any QB and offense.

Love Njoku and DeValve but with our surplus of picks I would not hesitate to add a TE who excelled at blocking but was not so limited in the pass game that his inclusion in a formation tipped our play call

I'll be floored if we pick #1 next year. Our roster has improved in multiple areas and even as bad as we were last year, there were still 5 games decided by less than a TD. We'd have to get supremely (un)lucky again for it to happen.

There are quite a few teams in the league with a roster worse than ours... Assuming Kizer doesn't break out, hopefully a team who is locked into a QB like Chicago ends up with it and wants to move down for some picks.

This is just the beginning

I'm still waiting on the 2017 tank thread

@The Wizard of Moz
I think we are the only 2 remaining who didn't like the draft so I don't think the tank thread would be well received right now

Exactly. The #1 pick takes a special combination of (lack of) skill and maybe even a greater amount of Luck.

Nearly every break imaginable went against (for?) us last year to get the #1 overall. Kicker McGee (I forget our kicker's name) choking in the Dolphins game like 4 times. The blatant fixing of the Ravens game with the 15 yard penalty on Pryor for dropping the football somewhat near a player (not to mention the BS Coleman personal foul). Crowell's miraculous fumble against the Pittsburgh B squad when it looked like Myles had completely slipped away. Kaepernick's miracle comeback against the Lambs in week 16. The Jets collapse.

What we did last year took a great deal of luck to go with our good tanking. It always does.

I think we will be better than Vegas expects next season, not playoff bound, at least we will not be one who gets blown out either. With 5 picks in the top 60, our flexibility will be amazing and with cap space too 2018 is a sure bet playoff team.

I think we are going to pick #1 next year....

Not because of our record. Because we trade up from 6 or 7 to take a QB.

Browns fans loving the Browns draft? Definitely never happened before...

Well, all the pundits love it too.

But we'll see.

Curious as to who could objectively be opposed to their strategy

1. Cleveland Browns:
Sam Darnold, QB, USC

Yes, Cleveland took DeShone Kizer in the second round of the 2017 draft, but Darnold is not the type of talent that can be passed up. His 453 yard, 5 touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl against Penn State was a glimpse of his immense upside. He has an incredible arm and natural feel for the position.

25. Cleveland Browns (from Houston): Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville

The Browns roster is improving but still needs help at cornerback. Alexander has the coverage and ball skills to become one of the top breakout defenders in the 2017 season and give Cleveland another talented piece to the defense at a position of need.
