2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well they hold more weight than anonymous sources who claim he doesn't love the game, but people seem content to run with that as fact.

Actually, I don't think that's true at all. Self-serving statements prior to the draft are entitled to zero weight. Multiple sources reporting there is a particular issue...yeah, I'll at least consider that as something of which to be aware.

You, of all people, would not be the person I'd think would be the type to buy into the anonymous sources saying he doesn't love the game or is a problem off the field.

Multiple sources aren't reporting a particular issue, they've so far assumed he has a character issue based on the same report everyone else has.

It's nonsensical, and you could simply listen to this kids history of public commentary. He's not the rah rah guy, he's pretty deadpan.

If that gets mistaken for not loving the game, sucks for whoever passes on him.

I'm not accepting them as true. I'm accepting them as smoke, and am willing to trust the interviews to see if there is any fire. You're the guy assuming they are false, and who is saying you won't trust the interview process because Dorsey won't like him anyway.

I'm not assuming anything, to be honest.

I'm taking the kid at his word, before the pre-draft process and throughout his career at UCLA. There is no valid reason to question his "love for the game."

Hopefully John Dorsey doesn't carry the same confirmation bias.

Nobody cares about Josh Rosen. McCloughan and Dorsey have all but turned in the card. They are going to select the best quarterback of the lot. Mayfield to the Browns. Finally they get it right.

Would also consider trading number 4 to the Bills for their 21 and 22. Buffalo needs a quarterback. Buffalo has learned the hard way that drafting inaccurate college quarterbacks ( Tyrod Tailor 57%) never works out. Kizer had similar numbers.

I know this is a lazy comparison, but when watching Iowa, Jewell reminds me of fellow Hawkeye Christian Kirksey, just a guy that seems to always be around the ball, making or helping on the play.

I know that is such an simple view of the comparison as they both play the same position and went to the same school so please dont beat me up for it, lol

A Kirk Ferentz defense is a smart, well coached defense. It's no surprise that he gets a few defenders drafted every year. I thought Jewell was one of the better coverage linebackers I watched play college ball last year.

The Bills didn’t draft Tyrod Taylor.

Coverage linebacker, yeah the lazy Kirksey comparison continues, lol.

But i would love to take him in the middle rounds, we can use the LB depth for sure.

I think that will be my new thing. So Rosen reminds me of Troy Aikman, Barkley Ki-Jana Carter, Donald is clearly Matt Leinart, no wait, Paul McDonald, lol

Ok i am done.

Paul Pierce....if he was a football player.

But trying to just answer your post, if somehow, some weird damn way Minkah/Chubb were off the board at 2 & 3, I would 100% trade Buffalo for that - but they would also have to throw in their 2nd or 2019 1st. And we would probably ship out one of our 4th's.

To me, any other player selected at 4 would be "reaching"

I think we all agree we need to upgrade our depth at LB sometime in the draft. If he is from a strong program with good tape and interviews then heck yeah we need to take him. I am still learning how to evaluate defensive players overall, so for now I have to go with what analysts say.

I honestly feel we need to find a LB stronger in coverage than the crew we currently have and one that can even play in the 4-2-5 as one of the 5 DBs.

@AZ_ @Randolphkeys
Is there a bigger S in this draft that could fit in the system in both the LB and S spots?

I doubt strong safety is worth drafting for the Browns because Derrick Kindred was great this past season, and Peppers should either play a passing down linebacker or strong safety. They are ghetto rich at that position and dirt poor in others.

That said, a true linebacker with coverage skills always has a roster spot because they tend to be leaders in kick coverage. Jewell is my favorite in the draft. The two guys I think could make the conversion from safety to coverage linebacker are Terrell Edmunds of Virginia Tech and Quin Blanding of Virginia. Terrell is the brother of Tremaine and has declared for the draft. He is also a physical freak but the smaller brother, so he flies under the radar. Blanding is a thumper who had to play safety for Virginia, but put ten pounds on that guy and he goes from a strong safety with coverage limitations to an elite coverage linebacker, IMO.

Barkley is the Markelle Fultz of backs.

Sure, a major part of his game is broke as shit, but he’s so good that he’ll overcome it.

...I think? Right? Maybe?
