2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So having a threat out of the backfield doesn't contribute at all to "pass efficiency"? Doesn't set up play action for big gains? Doesn't pull more defenders in the box to allow for more one on one situations?

Baseless statistics are just that, baseless.

I mean, sure. That doesn’t make the stat baseless, the point itself is about running the football, which is also his main role.

Seems like you’re stretching yourself pretty far for this.

But you’re not drafting him as a pass catcher, especially not to this team who already has an elite back there.

Came late to this argument about taking 2 QB's w/our first 2 picks. Of course, you don't do that. With the holes we have, the still fantastic talent that is going to be available at #4, pretty much a game-changer from Day 1 (Minkah or Chubb, throw in Barkley if you want, who gives a shit (even though I don't want him at 4)), you don't take 2 QB's when you already have a young QB you just fucking drafted on your roster. Sign a vet-bridge and if the bridge is good enough to run ship for a year or 2, let the young guy learn. If he's literally there to mentor the young QB (see: Rosen) then when Rosen is ready to go, throw him in there *cough*McCown*cough*

Also, what wasn't brought up - you are absolutely doing a huge disservice to both of those QB's. You can joke all you want about the Browns being the place where college QB's go to die, but you are robbing one of those QB's the chance to have a successful career in the NFL from the get-go b/c one of them would be sitting doing jack shit. Not just actual physical play, but mentally as well.

If you want to draft 2 QB's, which I just feel is so dumb and a wasted pick - wait until the mid-later rounds and select someone like Lauletta, Falk, or Ferguson. They aren't coming into the league with expectations to start right away or even a year or 2 down the line. So bring one of them in if you really want to.

And if we were a bare cupboard, I would agree with taking a guy in the 4th or 5th along with the top pick--someone like Mike White or Lauletta, as you mention.

However, we know that DeShone Kizer is a bag of tools who needed time. Just because he started last year, that doesn't mean he was anywhere close to ready. He was just more talented than anyone else that we had on our roster so we let him drive the car--even if it was driving it right into the lake.

I know we all feel his accuracy issues will limit him in the future, but I don't agree with cutting bait on him entirely. I think he handled a horribly dealt hand admirably and with a great deal of leadership, despite poor on the field performance most of the time.

I think he can continue to develop as a backup quarterback in the league. He's very young and the talent he possesses is greater than anything you would get in round 4 through 6.

In my mind, it's going to be the following to start the year with the #1 pick climbing the depth chart potentially as the year progresses:

1) Bridge Starter (Likely McCarron, sigh)
2) DeShone Kizer
3) #1 overall pick

There just isn't a place to take a 2nd QB in this draft unless you are ready to cut a 2nd round pick who showed some flashes as a deer-in-the-headlights rookie.

We're going to be bombarded with "Browns not enamored with top QB" takes for a few days.

Tony Pauline leading the charge towards overly general statements that he certainly wouldn't be privy to after trying to out John Dorsey as a source.

Agree wholeheartedly with this:

Taking Barkley at 1 is a disaster, Guice or Michele would be just fine if we traded back into the 1st round or at 33.

I cannot get over how good Bradley Chubb is. QB has to be #1 overall but I would absolutely take him @ 4 no questions asked.

Chubb and Garrett would be vicious. What Chubb lacks in Garrett's freakish athletic ability, he has double in technical ability.

1. QB1
4. Chubb
33/35/62/63. RB/DB/WR/BPA

I dreamed a dream....

To all the Chubbsters: Have you seen how good the 2019 DL class is?

It's...really, really good. Unless the Browns are competing for a playoff spot next season, we should be in position to get one of those guys.

I'm still on the Minkah train. Or a trade down for Ward. DL is not a need and the opportunities will be there next draft, with a worse pick, to draft a player equal to or better than Chubb.

If they wanted to take the best player regardless of position, it would be Roquan Smith or Quinton Nelson.

Roquan Smith is a hell of a football player.

However, is no one concerned that he’s only 6’1 225?

He’ll have to play the WILL. I think he’ll be a great pro—I’m just curious.

I think he’ll come into Indy heavier than 225, but I think he’s a natural Mike at like 235.

Won’t take too much to get there.
