2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think we confuse Arm Strength and Arm Talent.

Accuracy matters for Arm Talent imo.

Allen has arm strength, but his arm talent is suspect.

Exactly my point. I guess it's hard to separate anticipation from accuracy for touch throws, but give me the "arm talent" of a guy like Drew Brees over Josh Allen. He's got nowhere near the arm strength but enough arm to make every throw in the playbook and has ridiculous touch that shows up both in the windows he squeezes the ball into and the way he sets receivers up to run after the catch.

All of these scouts and draftniks fall in love with the arm strength and confuse it for arm talent over and over again.

Dorsey just clapped back at Tony Grossi for asking why he didn't have certain players in to visit. He made two points that were also made on this site.

Dorsey said (paraphrasing), "I know all there is to know about them. Why would I bring a kid in when I already know what kind of player and person they are? Why not use one of those visits on guys who you have questions about? You can't recruit them any more."

Agreed, I hate how arm strength and arm talent are becoming one in the same. That's like saying the golf long drive champion can make every shot on a course. That's simply not the case. Just because they can throw it the furthest doesn't mean they can hit every throw shorter than that.

He actually said “a great man once told me don’t show all your cards at once”

And this.... this is making me seriously consider the possibility that Rosen will be selected at 1.

Especially after Dorsey specifically commented on how intelligent he was.

I don't see how he can not be in the conversation. At least, in the conversation more than what's being led-on by the media.

I posted this in the QB thread, but Rosen is a 2018 prospect, so check this stuff out. I feel like this will strengthen the conviction of those who like Rosen; especially the part of the piece that says he's better than Goff.

Listened to Dorsey's presser today:

1. He didn't say it, but he knows which QB he wants at #1. Any time the question came up, he mentioned he's confident in where he is in the process.

2. Based on his description of his ideal QB, I think it's still Darnold. "Accuracy, strong arm, red zone throwing into tight windows, end of game - does he win? Will his teammates like him? Does he have the physical ability?"

I think Darnold will come into the perfect place for development of a #1 overall QB. He certainly needs the work, but we have Tyrod to start, and Stanton to show him the ropes of the NFL.

Another good tidbit he mentioned was that he likes having the first pick in the second round. This makes sense as that pick has a lot of value to start day 2 with teams getting a full night's rest to reset their boards. If we want to get back into the first round, I see him packaging #35 rather than #33 to move up.

If he actually said that word in his presser, then no GD way he drafts Allen.

If that word actually came outta his mouth, then I am pretty damn confident it's not Allen. He would be the laughing stock of the damn football world if the very first thing outta his mouth about which QB to draft is "Accuracy," and he drafts a QB that can't even hit the farm, let alone the broadside of the barn.

He absolutely said that.

Hm...I don't feel this way at all having watched the presser.

They asked him about Rosen and the narrative about his personality. Dorsey didn't jump to defend him by any means. It was a pretty canned, flat answer.

"I'm fine with him", "I have no problem with him", "he's a smart kid, he's just a broad thinker and maybe that's why people think that", "he's a neat kid".

All defenses of Rosen, but none of them had any sort of fight behind them. Pretty unenthusiastic delivery imo.

I don't think his answer gave us any more insight into his thoughts on Rosen unfortunately. I think as others have said, the biggest thing you can take away from his presser was that he repeatedly beat the "accuracy" drum which would look completely foolish if he ended up drafting Allen.

I think we can safely say Allen is not being considered.

Well if we’re going that way he clearly stated hand size.

And then specifically said he worries about that with a guy like Darnold and all his fumbles.

Yea I was forced to take 2 in the mock

Back to this, it's pretty common for division one college guards and centers to be left tackles in high school. Once the level of play is raised, the best blockers at the previous level learn a new position. There's plenty of pro guards who played left or right tackle in college. There's plenty of college centers who flip to guard as well. The goal is to play your five best linemen regardless of what they used to play.
