2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I really hope LeBron doesn't try pressuring us into drafting Trae Young. That'd be a huge mistake. His team's well on their way to falling to 16-11 and 6-9 in the Big 12.

Trae Young looks like IT post injury right now.

Trae Youngs best skill is his floor game and passing.... no one can take that away from him, but he is worth a top 7 pick without his shooting.

Young...pull your shit together man, we need your to be in the top 5.

Pisses me off... we need the Suns or Orlando to pick him up as they were most intrigued by him.... Orlando even traded Elfrid to clear that spot.

His stock is free falling.

John Hammond just takes the guy with the best length usually lol.

How gross would a Gordon-Isaac-JJJ frontcourt be, though?

At +6.4 offense, -2.4 defense, Trae Young is starting to look less similar to Kyrie (+7.9, -1.5) and more similar to Travis Diener (+4.8, -2.4) in my database. Not many players with -2 or worse defensive projections have amounted to anything more than decent roleplayers.

EDIT: Speaking of defense...Trae Young going waaaaaaay under the screen on that last play...lmao

Still one of he better finishers FG wise for PGs in the top conferences. Sexton for comparison shoots 43 percentage at the rim and his FTr much higher.

Also Youngs floater percentage and volume projects well... but yes, his finishing against Big centers is questionable.
Didn't know Sextons finishing was that poor, I'd say it's a bit of a red flag for both of them. Just to compare, how did other lottery pick PGs finish at the rim in college?

I'll post them tomorrow as I am on the phone. I know that Kyrie was the best in recent years at 62 percent. Curry was at 53.

But I'll post them all tomorrow.

Thanks man, that's good stuff. Obviously there are so many other factors at play: shorter 3 point lines, teammates ability to space the floor, etc. I also wonder how rim finishing translates from college to the pros. But regardless, lead ball handling guards need to be able to finish at a good clip at the rim in the NBA.

Yea we need Young to to push the C's and Porter down some if we are gonna make a selection

People are trying to find the next Curry but Young is not it. Current Lou Williams if he improves and gets better would be a generous comp for this kid. Right now he does not deserve any consideration in the top 5.

They are nothing a like... If he is going to make it he is going to be a very unique player... but not on our watch.

Young is an excellent passer that just feels like he needs to be the main scoring option on this Sooners team... who knows how he looks like on a different team. Lou Williams is a pure scorer.

Anyways, he shouldn't be on our radar.

(Shrugs at Trae Young being exposed after being overhyped)

He wasn't overhyped though, he was having a historic season. Maybe the better word is that he was over performing? His shot isn't there now, he has problems finishing at the rim against good shot blockers... he wouldn't have been hyped like he did if he shot the ball like he does now. Who knows whether it's a slump or a correction?

He was being horribly overhyped in the same way that Jimmer Fredette was. After the first 10 games it was clear to me that he was being overhyped and if he irresponsibly was going to come to the pro's after this one showcase season at Oklahoma, I wanted no piece of that hype show.

When I watched him in the all american game, I saw a steady PG who had a knack for passing on the break but would need a good 2 years of strengthening to be solid at the pro level. I wasnt wowed athletically. I wasnt wowed by anything more but mostly because I was so enamored with MPJ. I wanted MPJ to have the ball in his hands and I wanted Young to go spot up. Ive seen quite a few PGs at the McDonalds game before they got on my radar in their freshman seasons.

I had about the same excitement for Young that I did Marcus Paige. If Roy had tailored the offense to let Paige shoot and create his freshman season, he'd have produced as well until his second time through the ACC, just like Young.

Every coach could create a historic season for a scorer if they chose to tailor their entire program to do so. Lon Kruger got the entire basketball world to love Norman Oklahoma for a few months. Good for his recruiting. Not so good for Trae Young's development as he is crashing back to earth from the overhyping now.
