2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Lasso is sabotaging Doncic... absurd substitution patterns.

Yeah, wtf...brings him in off the bench after 3 minutes, then has him play the next 17 minutes straight through to halftime and the first four minutes of the second half. Gives him a short breather, then brings him in again briefly, only to bench him again right before clutch time.

Honestly, not a fan of RM, but the way they played before and now, way worse as the season progresses. Also, Doncic is also playing pretty unusual style (iso playmaker ala LeBron) for Europe and as I sometimes wonder if he can really break down defenders, this is what I forget. As soon as teams don’t do the usual pile up in the paint he destroys them, but teams usually park the bigs into the paint, triple team him and just really force the ball out of his hands.

Nobody let’s players really isolate and create. It does lead to more team oriented bball, but the real reason is the lack of skills/talent on the flor. Let’s face it, some of the legends of European basketball could not even play more than 5 minutes in the playoffs... Not really bashing our leagues, but the freedom and player/star influence and general strategy is still way different from the nba.

The point of this babbling? Luka is playing NBA game in Europe

Seems like he'll fit right in here then.

So your thoughts on Moritz Wagner?

High energy bench big that is a pretty high floor. I like him alot in the second round. Didn't like him at all last year to be honest. Not the greatest rebounder or defender for the 5, but I think he has a place in the NBA.

I don't think he's going to enter the draft though.

I like him as a cheap stretch 5/4. Smart basketball player, can play inside and out, moves pretty well, shows good passing instincts... value pick in the early 2nd.

Reminds me of Maxi Kleber.

I think you're selling Euroleaguers a little short...Guys like Bjelica, Mirotic, and Teodosic are all going to be playing 20-30 minutes per game in the playoffs (if their teams make it). But your point stands. Because of the NBA, the Euroleague is mostly void of elite star-level talent and ridiculously deep with quality roleplayer type guys (who come out of the US college system and aren't quite good enough to stick in the NBA). I think he'll naturally thrive in an NBA offensive with more pace and space, and a coach who's willing to give him the reins instead of trying to get him to play off of a traditional point guard.

As I've said a lot recently, his playmaking ability just gets more and more impressive the more you watch him. It seems like he creates two or three wide open looks per game out of nothing just with perfectly timed no-look passes that take advantage of split-second defensive lapses. For instance, on a 5-on-4 break today

Cutter goes:

Tricks the defender with his eyes; defender commits to the cutter:

Precisely as the defender moves to protect the basket, he fires a pass to the open man:

Shooter gets the ball, wide open as can be, and calmly drains the three:

If he makes that pass literally 0.2 seconds sooner, the defender has time to react and close out. 0.2 seconds later, and the defense rotates and the opportunity is gone. It takes most point guards years before they have the feel for the game to just instinctively make plays like that. That Doncic is doing it already, and consistently, is really special. I don't know if he'll be one of the greatest scorers of all time when it's all said and done, but I really wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being one of the best passers ever to play the game.

^These kids are growing up watching geniuses like Ginobili but most importantly LEBRON RAYMONE JAMES so their arsenal of real look off passes is so much more advanced than generations prior. Top prospects in the 90s just did not have that in their wheelhouse except for maybe Jason Kidd. The skill level every generation is just successively building on the ones prior.

Every kid that loves LeBron loves to do his real look offs where he fakes out a defender instead of the flashy look aways of the early 2000s. People say Curry has impacted the next generation with his shooting which is true, but I've noticed from the young bucks that come and play at my gym that their penchant for true look off passes is way more advanced than it was when I was balling as a high schooler. And this is entirely due to LeBron imo. He makes these look off highlight plays during the playoffs and they just stick in these kids' minds and they're able to do them way earlier.

Love to see Doncic making that read, but expect a whole lot more of that in the young guys of the future. And it's great for basketball.

Trae has to be injured or something. Teams are not doing anything differently against him...he just can't get to the lane like he used to. Doesn't have the same shiftiness and burst going down hill.

He looks tragic out there nowadays.

Robert Williams benched...wow. Crazy to think that he was considered a possible lottery pick at one point.

EDIT: Senior night I guess? Still though.

Not one of Jackson's best games right here...to say the least...

Miles Bridges has been coming on strong the last week or so though. He's still interesting to me even with the whole "is he a wing or a big" in the NBA thing.
