2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He has very few unfixable problems. Basically he struggles to finish around the basket and over dribbles in the paint. That's about it

His shot needs a little bit of work as well.

I need to see Ayton against actual competition, and not the Chico states of the world, but man... he looks really good. If he emerges as a legit number one pick, it only helps the Cavs.

Zona should be set to go deep in the tournament. Which will be a lot of big stage exposure for Ayton. I'm personally more interested in the body of work leading up to the tournament. But I think there is some value in watching the dominant guys and how they look on the tournament stage. (Like when Kyrie dropped 35 or whatever against Derrick Williams and Zona...even though Duke lost that sealed the selection for me. He was unstoppable. I had a good idea from his HS days and 12 other games he was going to be a stud...but that game in that moment coming off that injury was just like a giant "pick me" sign as far as I was concerned)

For me, Ayton's biggest concern is kind of silly, but important at the same time. I have long term attitude/ "playing in Cleveland" concerns. If he's coming in to be groomed by LBJ...sign me up yesterday. If he's the follow-up act to LBJ leaving again...that really scares me. if Bron leaves, We're going to need to have patience and a good rebuilding plan. If we get Ayton and he's a top 5 player by the end of his rookie deal.. I fear the same exact mistakes as the LBJ 1.0 era, except Ayton will have zero qualms about leaving us in the dust to go play for Miami/LA/NY/GS and definitely won't be feeling a responsibility to come back 4 years later.

Now I also fully agree...if he's a guy that is going to be a top 5 player...and you have a chance to draft him....you have to do it. 10 times out of 10. 100 times out of 100 even. Let the chips fall where they may and have faith in whoever Koby Altman's current lead assistant is because they'll be calling the shots in 3-4 years(too soon?) But he does look dominant. He looks like a young Shaq, young Dwight, young Admiral out there on the court. Physically imposing but with good feel for the game,no real weaknesses. Just a little raw.

My other problem is my personal obsession with Michael Porter's combination of size, athleticism, and jumpshot paired with a smooth ability to put the ball in the hoop(I get Durant vibes skill-wise. I'll be watching Missouri closely)

and I didn't even mention Doncic who is just a super young, scoring/assist/efficiency machine in a much better league than the NCAA. White James Harden? Slovenian Steven Nash? Except he's 6'7 and pretty athletic...

It's crazy that depending on season outcomes, lottery, scouting, etc...the team that drops to pick #4 might have to SETTLE for a prospect like Marvin Bagley who has all the tools to be your classic inside and out, defensive do-it-all power forward(maybe C in todays NBA). Like a Bosh/Garnett...(not just because he's a lefty either).

Obviously these are crazy, wild, best case scenario comparisons. If we get a top 4 pick I'd just have to be happy with ANY of these guys. Hell...if we get #5 or 6 and get stuck with Bamba or Bridges that's not exactly a bad consolation prize. Bamba is going to be a damn good player with a high floor and Bridges definitely has #1 potential but has to show it for sustained periods.

Bridges is going to be very solid but I get the sense he is not a player you build your roster around, but rather a quality starter on a good team that you love having as your third best player. Bad team second best player. If we are starting from scratch there is def a drop in ceiling after top 5 in my opinion. Things could def change with other guys showing they are better than anticipated.

If we end up rebuilding next year I would love to turn our pick into a late lottery pick by trading one of our vets.

Bridges could still be an all star so it would not be the end of the world, but we may need to prepare ourselves for a few years of drafting on the lottery. No idea if Altman has a good eye for talent. We will probably find out soon.

Two must haves for anyone drafted, aggressiveness (high competing) and hard work. Most of the top talent is due to lack of these traits (injuries not considered). What good is excellent talent level if it doesn’t come to play? (Rudy Gay types)
With well planned future we could very well go SAS or even LA(From Shaq to Kobe) route.

Bridges is impossible to figure out, which is what makes him so damn intriguing as a prospect, because he is essentially a ball of clay that can be shaped any way you want...he reminds me of Kawhi in that sense, in that people couldn't really peg Kawhi as what he will be or who he can be compared to at the NBA level, but he had obvious workable NBA physical traits (Kawhi had his defense and length, Bridges his athleticism and motor).

He's essentially a power guard. Too big, strong, and athletic for guards to handle, big enough and strong enough but too fast for bigs to handle. Prototype player for guarding PnRs.

His play reflects that too, which again, makes him tough to analyze as far as how he will fare in the NBA. Rebounds and blocks shots like a big, but shoots ~40% from 3, finishes with both hands, and flashes some terrific passing talent for a wing...while also shooting 68% from the FT line, rarely handling the ball, and running off of screens for jumpers like he's Korver.

He literally has no comparison for me, as a prospect, because I haven't really seen a skill set mixed with a play style like that. But I find it highly intriguing the potential of putting that skill set and play style under the tutelage of LeBron...

If the lotto odds don't favor us, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed in landing Bridges in the draft, should we keep the pick.

Doncic...Right now it’s difficult for RM to play, they’ve lost Ayon (awesome for them) and Kuzmic to injuries and Reyes is damn near 40.

He still has some nice stats, but going against small athletic guards is something to observe. If the refs let small guard hit and grab him he has trouble, but that’s something even LeBron had some trouble with. Still not confident he will for sure bring the same influence on team to the NBA.

Top four dudes in this draft are all fuckin awesome. I like Bagley, Ayton, Porter, and Doncic in that order right now. Need the Nets to lose more...

Not calling you out or anything, but it's crazy how the expectations on him have grown in just the last couple months.

His performance today seemed underwhelming, but he still had the highest index rating out of all players in all four of today's Euroleague games. His 19 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds would've been a career game for virtually any young Euro player of the last 10 years. For him, it's overshadowed by the fact that he couldn't hit big shots at the end of the game to give his team the win.

No no, was just trying to actually explain that he might have too depleted team to really play like he can. At the level he is playing, this is just normal game (we know someone like that don’t we?). I also think that he is something extra in the europe, because of his major effect on the game, he brings the NBA to the EU, at the same time, defense is allowed to go a lot harder on guys like that...
It would also help if Campazzo was not a midget trying to take on everyone. I hate him, terrible fit.
The thing is, if we get to really choose one of the top 3, I want what is best for the Cavs and I would really want a two way impact player from that.

What makes you think Doncic won't be a two way impact player?
