2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
at this rate well have 2 lotto picks so best to keep this thread live

Drafts loaded plain and simple...I've seen Mo Bamba mocked to us at #7 and Sexton to us at #7 alot and Porter at #7 once which I don't see happening... Either way the first 2 are very good prospects that immediate impact ability with their Defense and Sexton can light it up too

ESPN is going a little overboard with the hype train for Trae Young. They're basically turning him into this year's Lonzo Ball, or their next Tim Tebow lol. I'm seeing them all over the place talking about his 43 point game, yet conveniently leaving out any mention of 39 shot attempts. At this rate they're just going to turn the general public away from him just like the other two guys I mentioned lol.

On a serious note though, Young's efficiency is starting to become at least a little worrisome. In the six games in January he is shooting 59 of 149 (39.6%) from the field and 28 of 86 from three (32.6%) with 7.7 TOV/g to 10 APG. His shot selection plays a role into the numbers obviously, but he's going to have to get back to his earlier season efficiency numbers with how loaded this draft is at the top.

My god Kevin Knox looks bad. Banked in a 3 just now on a really ugly shot, which'll make his box score line a little more attractive than it would've been otherwise, but other than that he's been nonexistent down the stretch.

Kevin Knox is a funny player. He would be a bigger bust than Bennett on the Cavs.

As for Trae Young... 39 shots at a college levle? guy is insane... what the fuck is wrong with him?

His conference play efficiency is pretty alarming. Time to step it up.

He has some of the worst shot selection I've ever seen in my life.

He is starting to believe...(Morpheus Voice).

High confidence usually is usually good.

Believe what? His shit doesn't stink?

I saw him take multiple, contested 35 footers less than 10 seconds into the shot clock tonight without passing to anyone. I don't care HOW good a shooter you are, you should never be allowed to do that. Only guy I would even let attempt 1 of those shots is Steph Curry, and that's because he's proven himself to be the greatest shooter ever.

You are right, I don't disagree.

I jus think that the fact he thinks he can knock these shots(and he has shown the ability to do it) is a positive predictor for the future imo. Sure, he needs to improve his decision making, but he has shown high basketball IQ plenty of times, and so it's probably more ego driven and him trying to wow and overly impress than his lack of understanding of the game of basketball.

Only thing I'm worried about is his size really.

For what it's worth, he is on pace to break Curry's record for most 3's by a freshman. Could even come close to Curry's record for most 3's in an NCAA season he set in his sophomore year. There are troubling aspects of his game, but his shooting isn't one of them...he can jack as many 3's as he wants when he's making them at a 40% clip.

Kruger needs to figure out a way to get him moving off the ball. One of the reasons I cringed at the Curry comparison, in addition to the physical differences, is because Steph knew how to play with and without the ball. He spent his first two seasons at Davidson playing almost exclusively OFF the ball. He knew how to read and come off screens, how to cut, how to space the floor appropriately. We don't know if Young can do any of those things well because OU just gives him the ball and says go.

As far as how to view the horrendous tendencies he shows, I hope you're right.

Never said he was a bad shooter. But he was 14-39 in a game his team lost by 2, and he took multiple contested 35 footers early in the shot clock. Maybe don't so many dumb fucking shots.

He was 8/20 from 3, 6/19 inside the arc. Without those 8 three's he would've had an extremely inefficient 24 point game instead of a reasonably efficient 48 point game. Fire away, Trae.

Yes, he has to develop an off-ball game, just has to. Curry is so dangerous because you need to chase him all over the floor and you just can't switch the screens because he is going to burn every big that is switched against him.

This is why PGs that can shoot 3's are far more dangerous coming off screens in my opinion... you just can't effectively switch against them. Korver for example is beuing neutralized because he can't create off the dribble so switching is effective, unless he is screened by another elite shooter in Frye.

Youngs problem is that he has troubles freeing himself up.. you can see it even when he tries to get the ball in out of bounds plays. Also when he gets double teamed he needs to wait till he gets a clear passing angle to pass it to the open man... he can't jump and pass to punish double teams that attack too early. I don't know how good he is really coming off screens bencause he hasn't attempted playng much off the ball, but from what I have seen he has shown quickness and burst coming off screens in the half court, but for some reason has troubles getting open when he is smothered.

I just fundamentally disagree with this mindset.

It's one thing for shooters to shoot. It's another to tell a shooter to take any shot, no matter how horrible, because he's a good shooter.

Steph Curry isn't great because he's capable of knocking down 35 footers. He's great because he looks for the best shot he can every time down.
