2018 Series #1 | Indians @ Mariners | March 29th, 31st, & April 1st

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We had roughly $271 mil in revenue last year; with a payroll in the $130 mil range if I recall. I know there are a ton of other expenses, but we need to spend. If Machado is available, you need to get him if our window is closing. Throw him at 3rd, Kip in LF & Jose at 2B.

I don't see what the issue is. We have very few shots to win it all. This is one of them. Don't punish us for picking up Brantley's option.

If you cant support a team when they are in win now mode; GTFO.

Wait the Indians are being accused of still not spending?! Wtf

Pretty sure that's CA's point as well.
Agreed on both accounts. If fan support continues as it has the past couple years (I don't see why it wouldn't), then getting a guy like Machado that can take us over the top (think Cubs getting Chapman in 2016) is worth it.

I don't think anyone rational is doing that...I think @bigfoot5415 's point was, if the opportunity presents itself, getting a guy like Machado is something we should do.

I know our window doesn't close after this year, as we have some good young players in the pipeline to add to a core that is locked up for several more years...but it's hard to imagine our chances ever being better than they are right now, given the players we are going to lose to Free Agency in 2019.

And hell, with some WS money, maybe we can keep someone like Cody Allen.

I have never felt more confident...this team will win the world series this year..Bauer is due for a huge leap which gives us 3 elite pitchers with Clevinger being really good and Tomlin being a dependable 5th starter...with Miller and Allen on the backend this pitching will carry us

Hopefully Tomlin will be in the pen by midseason

After the Tribe gets Machado, the Cavs better go get Westbrook then. Because that is what you need to do in these situations.

Just a reminder: Machado is hitting FA. He is hitting FA as a SS. He doesn't care about playing for a World Series this year- he will do that next year with the Yankees or Red Sox or whoever he signs with. He is a Scott Boras client. He isn't coming here to play 3b. He won't play nice, nor will Scott let him. Unless Machado is going to take SS and Lindor is Moving to 3b, He isn't coming here, even as a rental. His eyes are on the bigger prize- becoming the highest paid player ever- and that prize requires finishing a full season as a plus SS. Him and Bryce Harper are Boras' raison de'etre; he isn't sacrificing a mm of negotiating room for the Cleveland Indians. I really hope you guys understand this before placing absurd, unattainable expectations on this club.

Well Machado doesn't have any no-trade provisions in his current deal, so he really doesn't have any say in where he's dealt. Is he going to sit out if he's traded to a team that wants him to play 3B for the last 2 months + playoffs? That seems....unlikely.

Saying he doesn't care about winning a World Series and he won't play nice is respectfully, speculative nonsense.

And no, I don't realistically expect the Indians to trade for him and won't be pissed at them for not "going all in"

Jonathon Lucroy.

Wouldn't mind Salad Czar pitching well for a bit if he ever isn't hurt and then trying to move him in a deal at the deadline so we can get some value before his arm gets sore again.

The Os had no contractual obligation to move him back to SS- but they did it because he wanted it. They are moving the guy who is going to replace him- Tim Beckham- to 3b to appease him. But you want the Tribe to then not only give up whatever haul it will require, but then tell him he has to move or else? Bet that sells well for the Tribe with players around the league- or did you forget that Cleveland has a stigma around the league? This isn't Jay Bruce, who happily suffered until he could flee back to NY. He was a bargain. I find that to be kind of stupid, to not only beat out other teams in prospects for Machado only to then tell him 'pound salt, you go back to 3b'. Sounds like a recipe for issues for a team whose success seems buoyed by the cohesive nature of the team. I would much rather they blow their prospect load on a rental who actually wants to be here in the role they will need him.

They won't, other teams are aware of his arm issues. They probably figure 'if the Tribe can't keep him healthy than who can?' I think they take what they can get from him on the field.

Lol what?

Where is this aggressiveness you're conjuring that the Indians are going to trade for Machado and then at gunpoint force him to play 3B?

What's the Indians's stigma around the league? That most view Cleveland as a shitty place to live? That ain't changing. Wouldn't you agree it would sit worse for players around the league if the Indians were to displace their franchise cornerstone to appease a rental? Are players going to suddenly line up to come to Cleveland because they "did right" by Machado for 2-1/2 months?

Bruce suffered here? By all accounts he loved it here. He went back to the Mets because they had the best offer.

I think you're really overthinking this. Machado is going to get his $300m and SS next year with the Yankees. I don't think he's going to throw a fit if he has to play 3B for a couple months on a WS contender if the other option is rotting away on a 4th place Baltimore team 20 games out of 1st.
