2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We’ve been hearing about and talking about Mej for a couple years. He’s yet to really break into the majors, and is positionless.
Yes he is a promising bat, but the window is open and keeping Mck is more valuable IMO. Balt would need to throw in the best reliever in the seal also.
It likely won’t happen, but it should be on the table.

How is he positionless? I’d consider him versatile if he’s beginning to exhibit a promising development as an outfielder. If Terry said he needs more time there before being thrusted into the lineup at that spot, so be it.

And as far as his not getting more time at catcher, you’re looking what’s a top-5 catcher platoon in baseball that has a continuity/chemistry with one of baseball’s best rotations. There’s nowhere for him to play right now if he isn’t ready for OF and you sure as fuck don’t trade his long term rights with that potential for a temporarily controlled player.

It’s far away from making sense.

Mejia currently is positionless, and you still don't deal him for Machado in any scenario.

22 is young for a player who shows +bat skills though. Go use databases to look up the number of players who have exhibited the ability to hit above league average in their early 20's.....the list isn't long.

Think about someone like Brantley, who is a supremely talented hitter with incredible bat control. His first MLB AB wasn't until 22. As a top draft pick, Lindor didn't break in to a lineup until 21. Jose broke out at the MLB level at 23.

If guys THAT talented with the bat aren't stepping in to a lineup until 21-22-23, it speaks to how we should be incredibly patient with someone like Mieja, who has shown great production at the plate in AAA COUPLED with room to improve. He's showing increased command of the strike zone and has rapidly matured as an MLB hitter over the last 12 months.

I'm just not trading someone like Meija, given our market, unless it is for (A) a star under team control or (B) a star that publicly expresses a desire to re-sign long term with the club. Even (B) would give me a lot of pause knowing the control we have both in years and salary over someone like FM.

He's not untouchable but it's a non starter for me for a rental. I'm far more willing to gamble with one of our MLB arms, knowing the organizational talent we have in scouting hurlers vs. a top tier positional prospect. I could get behind swinging for the fences for a minor league arm but flushing FM for a guy we are really, really unlikely to retain would be pretty reckless.

Talk about out of left field with L.A. showing up

I don't see a very logical Machado LAD offer out there for Baltimore.

This strikes me as the Orioles trying to solicit final offers by threatening to send MM to the splashy market.

Depends on what they're willing to give up. The Dodgers farm system is loaded.

I admittedly don't follow other teams' farm situations very closely but a quick scan doesn't find any position player consensus top 25 prospects, unless something has changed.

Verdugo is raking though it looks like, so I guess I could see that as a possibility if LA was actually putting him on the table.

I'd be shocked if they traded someone like Buehler for him but I guess if you have the ability to actually re-sign him, the math changes a lot on prospect value.

Either way, NL is NL for me. Just keep him away from someone we are more likely to see.

The supposed offer by the Dodgers as of last week was Gavin Lux and Dustin May.

Akin to say, Bobby Bradley and Eli Morgan for the Indians.

Have to think it would take more to get that done.

I'm on the "Machado is a luxury--not a necessity" wagon. But damn, I'd give up BB and Morgan for him in a heartbeat.

I don’t see anyone offering top 25 prospects, but they do have 5 top 100 guys not counting Walker Buehler

This is a prospect I don't think the Indians will match.

Just hit two dingers in the Futures game, and has really come into his own in AA this year. He's only 21, and I would think that giving up a prospect like this means that they are attempting to get the Orioles to take back some salary to keep them under the luxury tax.

His position is catcher.

He's been playing more and more OF recently. For the season 208 IP at OF vs. 340 IP at C.

Other teams may see him as a C but with the way things are trending it seems like the Indians have a different idea
