2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We’re going to beat Houston, then Seattle, then the Phillies because baseball

Whoever. Whatever path gets them to a title, I’ll take it.
I’m down with the path of least resistance if possible.

I was reading they picked up a minor league outfielder from St Louis, Oscar Mercado for a couple low A prospects.

Was St Louis number 10 prospect this year. Nice stat lines. Might contribute.

So the Nats keep Harper and they proceed to score 25 runs lol.

Fangraphs ranked the prospects traded at the “deadline”
1. Francisco Mejia
2. Austin Meadows
3. Yusnel Diaz
4. Tyler Glasnow
5. Brandon Drury
6. Oscar Mercado
Plus-running converted infielder who is now a plus outfield defender. Chance for 55 hit. He’s a slam-dunk everyday player if the bat gets there, kind of a tweener if it doesn’t.

10. Willi Castro
26. Connor Capel
27. Jhon Torres

Minus net one top ten- but they got an outfielder. Nice.

As well as two very good relievers

another great job by the FO. Strenghtened the bullpen for this year and already have miller's and allens replacement
Got us defense in CF
and did it without giving up anyone that we will miss. Mejia simply was not going to replace gomes and castro had nowhere to play. Plus he got mejia to San Diego who we will never play

surprised the twins took the route they did. They went from a pre-season contender to having a fire sale

Smart that they didn’t sell... They’ve put together a couple good wins after the deadline... Bryce has played better— and the two teams ahead of them are again upstarts...

The Nationals could get hot and nobody would be surprised if they made it to the World Series

I would. Every year we hear about the Nationals and every year they severely underwhelm in the postseason. Even my D.C. friends aren't believers in the Nats.

Same thing just happened with their Caps...

The team has enough talent to compete in October. With baseball you just never know.

Perhaps you might be surprised but I think plenty can make a case and understand why they would get there albeit nowhere near the favorites...

Total bummer that the ownership pulled the plug on the deal. Looks like we really would have acquired Harper, and that would have been a game changer for sure.

Obviously if the Indians can go out and make a splash like Jay Bruce in waivers.. I'd be excited. I'm still holding out hope for Cutch in a few weeks to be here. You never know.

Dozier was impressive in his debut and cranked a HR to dead center. I wouldn't be surprised if he has an major 2nd half like usual, 50 HRs in 2nd half since 2016.

Been discussed previously, but from Jayson Stark:

The Indians are better positioned to make an impact move in August than any club in their league.

So why is that? Because they’re the American League’s waiver-deal gatekeepers. Of all the AL contenders, they’ll get first dibs on every AL player who passes through waivers this month – because they don’t just have a worse record than the Red Sox, Yankees and Astros. They also have a worse record than even the Mariners or A’s. And claiming priority goes in reverse order of the standings.

“There’s so much strategy to (making deals in) August,” said one AL executive. “And they’re in position where their strategy is going to govern how August goes for the rest of the American League.”
