I'd take him for cheap, and he's better than what Kipnis has shown this year, but he's really not that good either.
Average bat, good glove.
Even though it's outdated, I do still value a player with a high batting average, even though he lacks power and hardly walks. And like you mentioned, he is pretty good defensively.
I feel like the other guys that will be available are Scooter Gennett, Starlin Castro, Jed Lowrie, and Asdrubal Cabrera. I'd probably rank DJ #3 behind Gennett and Lowrie
