2019 Around the MLB

Crazy to think that the Indians aren’t out of the playoffs while literally currently holding a playoff spot

Inspiring stuff

Some people on sports sites are still saying blow it up and were complaining on other sites that the trade they made yesterday was a waste because it doesn't improve the team. They aren't happy because the Indians aren't in first and haven't traded for that big bat yet. That is how irrational some of the peeps are who follow this team. I wish I was joking with you, but I am not.

Wish the Twins would’ve dropped that one in extras last night, but we have chipped away at this lead really well over the last month

With the amount of remaining games we have against the Twins, Clevinger back healthy, and Kluber on the horizon, I’d be more open to buying than I was a month ago

I feel our target would either be like what we did with Jay Bruce a few years ago who is a rental for not a top prospect, or go for a guy with control like Mancini, since I feel next season we will be a better team overall. I mean this season showed we have maybe the deepest starting staff of anyone in the pros, we have some good arms in the bullpen coming up (too bad Karinchak and Sandlin got sideline with injures this season). I feel with another year under their belts, guys like Bauers, Luplow, Mercado, Allen, etc will all be better next season, then cutting Kipnis's contract, and maybe moving a Bauer, would give us enough money to sign a solid player in free agency, to fill in any other hole on the roster.

Lineup with Mancini: (with OPS numbers)

SS Lindor .842
CF Mercado .795
1B Santana .957
DH Mancini .888
3B Ramirez .629
2B Kipnis .666
LF Bauers .718
C Perez .841
RF Naquin .749

Bench: Luplow, Plawecki, Freeman.

I mean at the moment, Mancini is on pace for 30+ Doubles, 30+ HRs so putting that in our lineup with the veterans like Kluber being back for the stretch run would make us a much more dangerous team. Also if you look at stats, Kipnis, Bauers and Perez have been hitter better of late and adding in a veteran RH bat in the lineup would help it a lot. Wish we could swap Freeman for a platoon partner for Kipnis since neither hit lefties well (Mathias does have a .955 ops against lefties in the minors, but I feel he still needs everyday ABs).

His 5.5 degree average launch angle doesn't appear to be sustainable for power, regardless of the early power he showed.

Hopefully Bauers can continue showing improvement. Really, he just needs to make harder contact more consistently.

86mph exit velo
31% Hard Hit percentage
6.0 Barrel%

Compared to 91.5, 45%, 11% for Yandy

Different hitters, but even if Bauer ticks up slightly, his launch angle suggest he would surpass Yandy from an offensive value standpoint.

Also, if Yandy does manage to put the ball in the air, it’s almost definitely going to the opposite field.

I legit never knew that. I thought the score had to be close (3 runs, plus extra for runners inherited).

Also why the save is a dumb stat.

It has to do something more with the history of baseball to how the save came about. Look at the early year numbers when it comes to baseball and you will see that saves then were because of three inning plus reliefs not because of a late game closer.

I know about the evolution of the relief pitcher.

I guess I just assumed the save was a more modern stat. Not really a stat I ever gave much thought to.

The save the way you know it is a modern stat. In the early years, it was bad to be a bullpen arm since that means you failed to be a starter and that was being a second/third string/AAAA type of player. I mean guys still needed/wanted to prove themselves and get into the rotation so you take the innings you get, but you really didn't want to be that long relief guy in some ways.

Has anyone been down to the AS festivities today?

I was at the Play Ball Park this morning. Pretty cool inside. Different display stations with all the major trophies, some memorabilia from the HOF, really cool Negro League setup, a mini house plastered with baseball card, bunch of interactive games (bat flips, diving catches against the wall, + more), autograph sessions & 'demos/Q&A's/talk sessions' throughout the day with decent big names from the past, and much more.

Outside is free. They had a couple food trucks, free samples from Coca Cola, 2 Budweiser Clydesdales, and a zip line. I think the zip line might be like $25
