2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wouldn’t shock me to see Kelvin Harmon be the best receiver in the class.

Not going to match Metcalf in athleticism, but he’s just a better player.

I doubt we draft a WR in the first two rounds, considering the success Perriman had when he came over, it's pretty clear that Kitchens + Baker can get value out of anyone.

We are still incredibly young at WR. We really do not even know what we have in Higgins because he never had a competent QB throwing to him or a competent coach coaching him. He has flashed big play ability and seems to have steady hands. I expect our young catching core (lumping Njoku in that as well) to make huge strides over the offseason now that we have sound structure in place. I Also would expect Duke to be featured more in the passing game as well now that Freddie has total reign.

I'd still be happy to see us gamble on someone if they drop but it just doesn't feel as big of a need to me as trying to find another TE with a varied skillset - more blocking focused with good hands to counter Njoku's athletic-focused game.

I rather get a stud TE than WR. Njoku proved to be a weapon when given a shot and can imagine a 2nd like him being almost unstoppable, that said I would like to see us go defense on 3 of or 4 first picks.

Here is a guy not to forget about (and who was getting snaps over Higgins way back): Ricardo Louis. I've never been a big fan, but he could end up proving to be very serviceable. Higgins did look a lot better this year once he had an actual QB throwing to him.

I believe Gaines is and UFA, so we would need to re-sign him. I used to stick up for DeValve, but WOW, talk about an invisible season. Might be time to move on from him.

It’s my hope the plan is to shift Robinson to RT for the long term. If they’re extending. His issues on the left are pretty obvious; but if the deal is reasonable and he’s sliding over, great.

What about Cole Beasley? Would he fit our WR group?

I’d be surprised if Louis wasn’t cut.

I am fine not drafting a WR early because all 4 of our WR's deserve a chance to play next year, but there is a pretty decent amount of risk if we just roll with our current WR core.

Landry is Landry. I personally like Higgins a lot. I think he can be a good #2 WR, but maybe his season was a fluke, who knows?

But the main two concerns are Callaway and Perriman. Like I said before, they both deserve a chance, but there is risk. Callaway has his off the field issues and bone-headed plays/drops. We'll see if he can eliminate those and keep his nose clean off the field. Perriman was obviously a huge bust in Baltimore. That can't be ignored. His success here was largely because we seemed to keep hitting 1 huge play with him each game. He never really seemed to contribute consistently thoughout a game... he'd hit his 1 huge play and that was mostly it. I am not sure how sustainable that is. As a 4th WR though, that is perfectly fine.

There's a rumor being floated around that Browns could open up @ Arizona on MNF. ESPN always has those double header MNF games, Baker vs Rosen seems like a good ratings plug.

Not to mention everyone will be watching to see if Baker gives Kingsbury the stare down.

There's numerous storylines to sell that game.

Like you said, Baker/Kingsbury

Baker/Rosen
Wilks fired
Kitchens tenure there
Fitzgerald's last season (supposedly)

I think WR is hard to guage in the sense, that there doesn't seem to be any one WR that has managed seperate himself from the rest of the draft class, and even if there were Dorsey doesn't seem to like picking WR's any earlier than the third round. If we do elect to move up in the draft I think it's going to be to get a top shelf LB or one of the truly elite DE/DL prospects.

We could move up for a LT as well, since they seem to go top 15 anymore normally (though I don't know Dorsey's track record when it comes to drafting OLine guys), but my guess is they will have a few targets and have deals kind of planned ahead if this person falls/is available here.

Edit: NVM about the LT thing if they are extending Greg Robinson to be honest.

We will see about the WRs when the combine comes around, thats when they really start to go up and down.
