2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Donald was a flat out stud his last year in college. He won every major defensive award he could: Lombardi, Bronco Nagurski, Chuck Bednarik, ACC Defensive Player of the year, and unanimous All-American.

I just don’t see the two as a valid comp. Oliver never registered above 5 sacks in a weak conference. Maybe it’s from constant double and triple teams, but if you’re looking at him as an interior pass rusher it’s a concern.

Thanks, it's looking like that comp just isn't there the more I read about it. Is there any credence to looking at the age difference between the two? Is the 2 year difference worth taking into account or is it simply a matter of him not being suited for that position in the pros?

Fun with mock offseasons, assuming the Browns pick middle of the round:

Coaches: Arians at HC, Kitchens at OC, Gregg retained at DC

Round 1: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

Assuming DeAndre Baker and Greedy Williams are off the board, Murphy has been PFF's highest graded corner all year because unlike the others, quarterbacks have targeted him in coverage throughout the year. An outstanding player in man and zone pass defense who is a little under weight, leading to a little concern in run support.

Round 2: Jerry Tillery, DT, Notre Dame

There is so much defensive talent at the top of this draft I feel like any number of defensive tackles could fall and help out the Browns in the second or third round. Tillery is 6'6 and an athlete. He offers great size to disrupt at the point of attack and the passing lanes.

Round 3 early: Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State

There's no getting around Dillard as a left tackle in pass protection, but there is also no getting around calling out his run blocking. You can't have it all in the third round, but protecting Baker is important. Hopefully a right tackle prospect will present himself at some point. This is a passing league where a great offense beats a great defense.

3rd later: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford

So hard to predict where receivers will get drafted until they go through measurements and the combine, but the Stanford prospect looks the part of a Z receiver who can win 50/50 balls and catch those patented back shoulder catches on the outside. Expected to have speed issues but would push Landry to the slot where he looks most comfortable.

4th Round: Ben Burr-Kirven, LB, Washington

A six foot, 220 pound tackling machine. While he will struggle in pass defense against tight ends at his current measurables, he could also fill out and play some weakside linebacker who plays like a hybrid safety.

Free Agency:

RT Daryl Williams, Carolina - 27 years old and competent enough for the right side in pass protection. He is really more of a brute force in the run. He was lost for the season with an MCL tear in July but is expected to make a full recovery.

OLB KJ Wright, Seattle - After a Pro Bowl season two years ago and a solid season last year, the 29 year old has been banged up in 2018. They have resorted to Barkevious Mingo covering for his position. I like him to bounce back and the Browns to buy low.

Keys, I love that offseason, but I am not sure about Whiteside. I've heard people think he's a 1st rounder. I love the talent, just don't think he will be there in the 3rd.

Murphy reminds me of the guy in Dallas. Jones? I really want another CB. He makes sense. Tillery is a good player too with a good pedigree.

I like your thinking, but I need to add a minimum of two WRs. Still feel that is an area we can take significant strides in talent wise. I need a guy that can create som major YAC who i can count on. Perriman and callaway have flashed but I need to see more!

I agree, I'm throwing in a trade with absolutely no Intel whatsoever:

Browns and Bengals trade center JC Tretter and a 5th rounder for WR Tyler Boyd, who will be a free agent in 2020 and likely to leave Cincinnati anyways. Browns sign him to a Jarvis Landry type deal. Austin Corbett takes over as center.

Boyd has definitely been impressive this year and would strongly consider something like this. My only concern would be he was held pretty in check when Green was out of the lineup. That’d worry me if he’s being brought in as a #1 option.

I keep saying it, but Calloway was a rookie who had a year off, he will look very good next year, should be a huge stride.

Perriman and Higgins are 3/4 receiver. That is fine, rookie WR seldom make an impact, and free agent WR is bleak this year. I rather make a trade or wait on another WR.

If we want another weapon for Baker, TE is the way to go. More flexibility, lets Njoku go out wide some, really create huge mismatches or take a safety out of their comfort zone covering out wide.

But we wont see a ton more efficiency bringing in another WR, it wont make the biggest impact imo using our high end draft capitol on a WR.

CB, DT and LB will make the biggest impact, its our biggest weakness and all 3 could have a rippling effect improving the defense.

Mock Draft Monday:

HC - Bruce Arians
OC - Freddie Kitchens
DC - Todd Bowles

Off-Season Additions
OT: Trent Williams for a 3rd round pick (Option B: Trent Brown to a massive deal)

WR: Sign WR Adam Humphries 4yr/$30M (Option B: Sign Quincy Enunwa to a similar deal)

Sign DT Bennie Logan or Malcom Brown

Sign LB Gerald Hodges

Off-Season Subtractions:
Greg Robinson
Chris Hubbard
JC Tretter (if they feel Corbett is the answer)
Jaime Collins
TJ Carrie
EJ Gaines

Draft:

1 - Cody Ford - OT - Oklahoma - Changing the game for this team, they need to establish two sturdy, long-term starters. Ford is elite on the right side, with great feet and massive size/strength combo. 6'4, 330+ reminds me of Jason Peters. Pair him with Trent Williams or Trent Brown and you have your set of tackles for the extended future.

2 - Dre'Mont Jones - DT - Ohio State - Still questions about his ability against the run, but he seems like such a perfect fit for the defense alongside what is currently constructed. Elite athlete with a variety of pass rush moves and quickness.

3 - Devin Bush - LB - Michigan - Small in stature but an elite athlete who would bring much needed speed to the linebacker unit.

3 (if not dealt) - Kristian Fulton - CB - LSU - Best secondary in the nation, but he's the forgotten guy. Good length, will compete for a starting spot soon.

4 - Emmanuel Hall - WR - Missouri - Good get off and seems to have really good feel and timing within a spread offense. Can develop into a legitimate 1,000 yard guy.

5 - Nasir Adderly - CB - Delaware - Small school guy plays with some serious nastiness. Checks off a ton of boxes athletically.

5 - Clayton Thorson - QB - Northwestern - This is my guy for 2019, he's the ideal developmental QB behind Baker.

5 - Lamical Perine - RB - Florida - Lost in the shuffle, but he's always impressed me with his one-cut burst and low center of gravity. They'll need a backup to Chubb who can earn some carries.

6 - Carter Coughlin - DE - Minnesota - Gave OSU fits in their matchup earlier this year. Really talented and smart player, developmental guy who could also help on special teams
We are not replacing 3 Lineman and one season, Especially after how they played the last five or so weeks, Try telling that to your franchise quarterback.......

Greg Robinson and Chris Hubbard are objectively not good.

They have an obligation to their franchise QB to invest in his safety.
So your Proposal is to have rookie right tackle, A guy who has never played one snap of center in the NFL, And a new left tackle on a contract year with his current team Who’s happen to play pretty good this year hmmm......His Safety has been pretty evident the last five weeks or so ,look at the stats on how many time has he been sack or even touch, best in the league in that stretch, I understand the scheme and him releasing the ball has a lot to do with it, But that line is still doing a good job......Not to mention Baker Trust Robinson a whole lot.....

Corbett could very well start tomorrow

My plan is to draft and develop, while investing in a known commodity at both tackle positions.

If we based every decision off of a 6 week stretch with a relatively easy schedule, the decisions would look a lot different.

I’m thinking about the best interests of the team in the long run.

Tretter is very good in pass protection but has always been a liability in the run game. People who point out how great they have done up front protecting Baker have a point, but the holes have been rare for Chubb. Corbett was drafted to learn pass protection as a rookie and then take over for Tretter because he is a force in run blocking. Is he ready to pass protect? We will find out before the end of the season. They need to see what they have in Corbett.

I like Boyd, but he's a slot receiver, and we're already overpaying Landry in that role. We need a WR1, not another WR2, and Boyd is absolutely a WR2.

Boyd is a 6'2 Jarvis Landry, agreed. Cant argue his production with a bad offense around him this year. I also don't see a WR1 in this draft, and I believe that Cincinnati would take the trade because their line is ass and Boyd would likely look to leave in free agency the next offseason. What you pay the guy after trading for him isn't my job to negotiate, but it's a realistic way to bring in a better receiver for the 2019 season. The OBJ trade scenario seems like more of a fantasy than reality, IMHO.
