2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Regardless of any jumps Higgins or Perriman have made, neither is anything other than a WR3. What we need is a WR1.
I agree but...who is out there?

Many of us here like Funchess...myself included...but he ain't it.

Well, there's always the draft. Or trades.
Gonna be tough...we'd have to give up a ton in a trade. And drafting a #1 WR is very difficult, particularly in a draft with zero elite WR prospects. And even if you do draft one, the chances of him filling the role of WR1 immediately are minuscule.

WR1 is a need that will be challenging to fill this offseason.

Someone I'd inquire about is Keenan Allen. Mike Williams has looked good when he's gotten targets this year, and they may want to go forward with him as their guy. No idea if they'd be open to trading him, but worth asking. I think Allen is under contract for a couple more years, so that may factor in. We'll have to see if they pay Melvin Gordon. If they do, they may be looking to move Allen and draft a replacement.

Would not be shocked to see Allen Robinson be made available for a 3rd rounder.

Big, big contract and the guy is underperforming immensely.

It’s not his fault, it’s Trubisky’s fault.

As a contender paying Mack gobs of money, I could see the them moving him and drafting a 2nd or 3rd round receiver to manage the cap.

With Gabriel, Miller, Burton, and Cohen.... they don’t use Robinson appropriately to justify his contract.

He’s on pace for about 60 catches, 750 yards, and 5 touchdowns. Not what they paid for.

He’s fit so perfectly here.

Mock Draft Monday:

HC - Bruce Arians
OC - Freddie Kitchens
DC - Todd Bowles

Off-Season Additions
OT: Trent Williams for a 3rd round pick (Option B: Trent Brown to a massive deal)

WR: Sign WR Adam Humphries 4yr/$30M (Option B: Sign Quincy Enunwa to a similar deal)

Sign DT Bennie Logan or Malcom Brown

Sign LB Gerald Hodges

Off-Season Subtractions:
Greg Robinson
Chris Hubbard
JC Tretter (if they feel Corbett is the answer)
Jaime Collins
TJ Carrie
EJ Gaines

Draft:

1 - Cody Ford - OT - Oklahoma - Changing the game for this team, they need to establish two sturdy, long-term starters. Ford is elite on the right side, with great feet and massive size/strength combo. 6'4, 330+ reminds me of Jason Peters. Pair him with Trent Williams or Trent Brown and you have your set of tackles for the extended future.

2 - Dre'Mont Jones - DT - Ohio State - Still questions about his ability against the run, but he seems like such a perfect fit for the defense alongside what is currently constructed. Elite athlete with a variety of pass rush moves and quickness.

3 - Devin Bush - LB - Michigan - Small in stature but an elite athlete who would bring much needed speed to the linebacker unit.

3 (if not dealt) - Kristian Fulton - CB - LSU - Best secondary in the nation, but he's the forgotten guy. Good length, will compete for a starting spot soon.

4 - Emmanuel Hall - WR - Missouri - Good get off and seems to have really good feel and timing within a spread offense. Can develop into a legitimate 1,000 yard guy.

5 - Nasir Adderly - CB - Delaware - Small school guy plays with some serious nastiness. Checks off a ton of boxes athletically.

5 - Clayton Thorson - QB - Northwestern - This is my guy for 2019, he's the ideal developmental QB behind Baker.

5 - Lamical Perine - RB - Florida - Lost in the shuffle, but he's always impressed me with his one-cut burst and low center of gravity. They'll need a backup to Chubb who can earn some carries.

6 - Carter Coughlin - DE - Minnesota - Gave OSU fits in their matchup earlier this year. Really talented and smart player, developmental guy who could also help on special teams

1. I have read where some think Ford is a guard in NFL and not a tackle. what have u seen??
2. Tretter has played good and thru injuries. U think the Brown's will see that and keep him?
3. Carrie as 4th/5th CB--not good enough or to much money?? about a 3million cap hit
4. Collins is over payed but I think he is playing better then most. Ur opinion?

I like Bush a lot that would be a steal in 3rd.

What do u think of the Buckeyes 2 corners? Arnette and Sheffield. I like their speed and think currently in the NFL speed is becoming even more important with how quick the ball is coming out.

Neither has declared for the draft as of yet, and neither has been particularly impressive.

Arnette just cannot keep his hands off of receivers with the ball in the air. He seemingly draws a flag every single game.

Sheffield is the better of the two, but he has serious technique issues right now. So much so that his blazing speed isn’t enough to save him.

Very very disappointing pair of corners.

So I've been looking at Ed Oliver falling in the draft after people realized he is still exceedingly raw in terms of hand technique and is still somewhat hindered by his size, and I've been wondering about Aaron Donald as a comp. Obviously it's difficult to compare anyone to Donald right now, considering just how singularly dominant he is as a pass rusher and even coming into the league the consensus seemed to be that he had very good hands to go along with his athleticism. I do wonder though, Donald was two years older than Oliver going into draft and I haven't been able to find any scouting on him from when he was at Olivers age. Is it reasonable to expect Oliver to, in a couple of years, approximate what Donald looked like coming into the league? I'm not very knowledgable about player development in football and how big of a difference two years is in terms of D line player development, but you'd think that there's reason to believe that him being as young as he is would speak to him having a lot of room to grow, right?

This year has raised a lot of eyebrows for Oliver supporters, but put me in the camp that believes when he runs a 4.65-4.7 40 as a 290 pound defensive tackle and vertical jumps 38 inches, he’s a lock to stay in the top 5.

What if his weight is closer to 275 than 290? I watched a couple of PFF videos about him and they seemed to insinuate that he's a good deal lighter than previously advertized? How much of that can be written off as him just not being as far along in his physical development and how much is that going to matter?

Again, I'm a complete novice in terms of this stuff, so I hope my questions aren't too boneheaded, haha.

His use of hands definitely looks inconsistent; he seems to play the run exceptionally well but doesn’t look to generate an effective rush on a consistent basis. Quinnen Williams looks more developed in that facet.

He definitely looks to be around 275 or so; if he can get up to around 285-290 and still test as well as everyone expects I struggleto see him falling out of the top 10.

I think Quinnen Williams is my favorite top-end player at this point. So disruptive and moves will for his size. He doesn’t look like he can be pushed back at all; he also has a habitually violent use of his hands which helps him generate a good pass rush.

Guy is a habitual line stepper

Williams does seem to be the consensus best player at that position going into draft for sure. There generally seems to be a literal metric fuckton of great D Linemen in this years draft, but there's just something about Olivers upside that seems so interesting to me. If the "rumors" are true and he isn't as heavy or as tall as he's listed, paired with the reports that Houston thinks 285-290 is too heavy for him that is going to be an issue, but there are still so many other players who are likely going to be available in Lawrence, Brown and Simmons to name a few who would be awesome paired with Myles.

I've heard Corbett is a guy they want on the interior next year. Tretter and/or Zeitler may not be on the roster next year.

Carrie is fine but he seems easily replaceable. Step above a JAG

Collins is really really good when he plays hard. Probably is he takes a LOT of plays off. He's a bad example for a young team. I'm totally good with letting Collins go.

If we are subscribing to the “protect Baker at all costs” theory, I’d like another TE threat.

Brady was impossibly good with Gronk & Hernandez. Is there another TE we could nab in the draft or FA to add a weapon to those kinds of sets?
