2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I actually love our position. We are loaded with raw talent. Next draft we have a few spots to fill. If we draft relatively well, and our 2nd and 3rd year players progress as they should...…. Add that to the decline and aging of the rest of the AFC North. We are fighting for a Division Title.

It's going to be odd next draft, because it's no longer take the very best player there because we desperately need the talent, it's compare the best player there to the player we could really use because he fits a need that could very well catapult this franchise to where they need to go.

It's gonna be great.

I would 100% be willing to draft a WR, CB, S or DE if they were the best player available when the Browns are picking in the first round even though the Browns have young talent at all of those spots.

We'll see how this season plays out, but there's only one really glaring need on the team right now which is a really good heading into free agency and the draft.

Is Oliver a DT? If so, it will be interesting to see where we end up in the draft and how his year goes. I wouldn’t put a trade up off of the table just yet.

I see it more the other way around... hopefully having a team without glaring holes, especially at QB, so we can take the best player regardless of position like the good teams do. Not sure we’re there yet (looking at you, left tackles), but heading in the right direction.

Personally, given how much young talent we have at WR right now, I don't think I'd waste a first on a receiver. You can find elite receivers in the second and third round.

Hell, look at last year's draft.

Corey Davis - Fifth overall...shown a flash here and there but nothing yet.
Mike Williams - Seventh overall. Rookie year was basically lost.
John Ross - Ninth overall. Wasn't even good enough to get on the field for the Bengals last year.
Zay Jones - 37th pick. Did next to nothing last year and can't beat out Kelvin Benjamin.
Curtis Samuel - 40th pick. So good the Panthers used a first rounder on a WR just a year later.

The three best receivers thus far from last year's draft were picked 62nd (JuJu), 69th (Kupp), and 84th (Godwin...buy him now in fantasy before his team realizes he's better than Mike Evans). Might also include Golladay (96th pick) and Westbrook (110th). Also, I didn't look at undrafted WRs from last year, so there might have been another example or two out there.

Either way, unless Gordon washes out of the league again, I don't really see a reason to invest a first-rounder in a WR when there's always elite WR talent to be found later in the draft. Always.

I can only scout the top 2 prospects, I don't know how to research theses 4th or 5th prospects. Tradition.
How did you scout outside of the last two years?

I'd say the results of the past two years show that teams are looking for very specific traits, but can fall into the trap of reaching for those traits. There can be some causes for a college wide receiver to become over or under-valued.

Some things that get over-valued: Straight line speed - Raiders did this time and time again. Raw stats - Maybe the player had an elite QB or playcalling for the conference.

Some things under-valued: Full route tree - shows dedication to the craft and translates to the timing of the NFL. Catch radius and drop rate - shows ceiling as a possession receiver for 50/50 balls.

I'd never say "Never draft a receiver in the first round." Julio Jones is standing over here, an obvious stud who obviously produced.

My go to was ncaa until that whole situation ruined it for me.........so, for a few years i just did dynasty mode and recruited my own players. I was sure that that game was able to see into the future. Year 27, i was shattered. Got busted paying players

I didn't say to never draft a receiver in the first round. I said I didn't think the Browns should do so the next couple of years given the state of their roster. It's hard for me to prioritize a position where we've got Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon over so many other positions where we are not nearly as solid.

And considering there's almost always quality talent available in the second and third round, there's really no reason for us, the Browns, to use a first on the position unless something happens to either Gordon or Landry.

Washington LT Trey Adams going to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his back.

Tough, tough loss for that team and his value. Certain round one guy before this.

That said, his value will be interesting to watch. He's immensely talented.

If some-damn-how we pick in the Top-2:

Oliver (HOU - DT) or Bosa (duh). Both freaks. Immediate impact. Like we were saying this year w/QB. Don't overthink. Just take.

If we pick anywhere from 3-10:

Greg Little (OM - OT). Jonah Williams (BAMA - LT). Rashan Gary (MICH - Edge). Clelin Ferrell (CLEM - Edge). Probably missing some.

If we pick 11-late teens:

Devin White (LSU - LB). AJ Brown (OM - WR). Greedy Williams (LSU - CB). Deandre Baker (GEOR - CB). Mitch Hyatt (CLEM - LT).

After that:

Christian Wilkins (CLEM - DT). Dre'mont Jones (OSU - DT)

Some of these names can go up a tier. For instance, AJ Brown, if we were picking at #10 and Oliver, Bosa, Little, Williams, Gary, and Ferrell were all gone, Brown would be a beast WR to take to pair w/Landry + Gordon to give Mayfield some supreme talent at WR.

People like AZ and some others can name more than me. But those are some studs and big names in the 1st-round for people who want to watch some film on/watch on Saturdays for people we can/may/should target.

It's going to be a race to the bottom between this QB class and 2013.

The early returns on this class as a whole don't jump out at me, its easily weaker than the last few years.

Strong Classes:

Defensive Line
Offensive Line
Cornerback
Wide Receiver (Not very much star power, but very deep)

Weak Classes:

Quarterback
Running Back
Linebacker

Some other random thoughts:

1. OleMiss' group of wide receivers may be the best I've ever seen on one team.

AJ Brown, DeMarkus Lodge, DK Metcalf all should go in the top three rounds if not higher. They're exceptionally talented and I'd guess they all test out well too.

2. Jonah Williams is still the truth. He's OT1 for me all the way.

3. Bama also has a young safety Deionte Thompson who is among my favorite players this year. Malik Hooker type with endless range and ballhawking ability. Didn't play much last year, experience is a concern. But he's the truth.

4. Hard not to get excited at the prospect of Bosa or Oliver on this Browns team. Will they be that bad? Can Hue do it? Time will tell. Both are going to be Hall of Fame caliber prospects.

I'd prefer Dre'mont Jones over Rashan Gary for the Browns personally. Think Gary could be a dominant 3-4 end, but I don't think he fits as well on the outside of a 4-3.
