2019 Potential Free Agency Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not a bad flyer. See if he looks like he can run and cut in OTAs at full speed and let him compete in camp. If not, no loss. Wasn’t he an oversized running back in college or am I thinking of someone else? I feel like I remember OSU recruiting him.

@CBBI @Randolphkeys

If I understand the argument here, no OT isn't a need, but at the same time the trenches are were the battles start. Kitchens modified things to overcome the issues there and the offense still ran really well. The question I have does it not limit the type of plays one can call? I personally feel we need to find the future LT if possible since that is one of the most important positions on the field and I don't think Robinson is the answer personally. It isn't a bad unit or anything, but how would Chubb, Hunt, Johnson etc look with an upgraded unit and Mayfield having the ability to have more plays at his disposal?

Is it me or does Jaelen Strong sound more like a cause than a receiver? lol

31 total receptions in 3 years, 6'4 220lbs, rand a 4.4 40 and 42 inch vert at combine.

Follows a patern of super athletic but non productive wr. I still rather have Perriman back, but worth a shot on this guy at camp to see how the knee is and if he has learned how to run a route or can be taught to run a route in the nfl.

Well it doesn't hurt though to bring him into camp, physically the potential is there so we have nothing to lose.

I remember him because I watched the 40 at the combine. Not going to pretend I know much about him, but seems like very Perriman type of issues. Had 1st round physical attributes, played slower, not sure if he is healthy or can run a pro level route, but great camp signing, bring in 10+ guys like him to compete and see who can make the roster. (no, not all WR, lol)

He was super productive at ASU, 157 catches, 2287 yards and 17 TDs in two seasons. He's a good WR to throw on the outside, if healthy.

I liked Strong in that draft because the roster lacked receiving options with his skill set. In college, Strong was a large framed outside receiver who was fast enough, but really a guy who could high point a jump ball and come away with 50/50 balls in tight coverage.

With the Texans, he had a good situation as a second receiver next to Hopkins, but the franchise never seemed happy with him. They moved on to Will Fuller pretty quickly.

Come to Cleveland, where Baker will make you cake. Cleveland is THE destination that turns career water into wine. If Baker touches his knee, it will be healed and he will indeed be 6’4. I like this signing and am not even sure if he will make the team.

Let’s be real: being on the Jags did this guy no favors, and before that he was on the Texans with Hoyer when Strong was a rookie (21st ranked offense) and Osweiller when he was in his 2nd year (28th ranked offense). He then played 1 game with Watson before being shipped off to JAX where he got injured in his only game.

No doubt he is a long-shot, but this seems to be a good risk-reward bet.

I didn't have season tickets as I was still in school during the 80's, but I remember it all very well and very similar. I look back at Bernie, my 2nd favorite player of all time until now, and I realize he was over rated. But he did do one thing Baker does, rally the troops and the fans. He had the entire city and team believing in him. (maybe he wasn't over rated in that context)

We are on the verge of greatness, and this is the first time I am saying that. Baker, Freddie, Myles, and I will even through in Denzel (Ward not Washington, although Washington is a fine actor)

We have the same makeup as back then, maybe even better as Baker looks like he will be a top 3 QB in a few years.

And what the fuck is it with the B names already with AFC North QBs? Bernie, Bubby, Brian, Bradshaw, Boomer, Blake, Boller, Rapist, Baker, etc

Brady, Brandon, Bill

Not to get side tracked but Bernie was two different players. Pre injury Bernie was damn good even though he had limited mobility. Post injury Bernie was a shell of himself. He started off playing at a high level and went to three AFC title games early in his career. There was a also a year he lost where he had to sit out a playoff loss to Houston or they could have easily made four conference title games. He was never a hall of famer but in his prime early on he was one of the best qbs in the AFC. He was never as good as Elway and his prime was not long at all. I just never understood why people on this board call him mediocre and over rated when he was a big time player from 86 to 90.

People talk about him on this board like he was Brian Hoyer, and I am just going to assume they looked up his overall stats and were too young to recall the games from 86 to 89. By 88 the o line began to crumble and his game went down hill over the next three years pretty fast. By the time Bill arrived he was still slightly above average but not near the same player from thr 80s. As somone that attended this ganes as a kid, I just wanted to throw my two cents in on his legacy.

Bernie was great but took too many hard hits... but I think you are confused about those Hoyer comparisons.

Maybe Hoyer is not the right name. But I have read numerous Bernie was so over rated posts over the past few years that give him little to no credit for being a pro bowl caliber qb from 86 to 89. No one ever said he was an all time great or hall of famer. Yes he was never the same after the o line faltered and he got hurt. Just don’t understand why people don’t make the distinction between early and late Bernie. They are two very different players. My point was Hoyer is an average nfl player/ fringe starter, and people talk about Bernie and use words such as average, mediocre all the time, and I don’t think it is an accurate description of his early career at all.

Thinking about some guys who would interest me as targets for the Browns. Not going to get into trades, only considering guys who are ticketed to be free agents as the new league year opens up.

WR:
Golden Tate - Philadelphia - Yes he's getting older, but he's still incredibly good and his talent playing in space is perfect for this offense that is predicated on it. I think we're over-rating size as it pertains to this WR group. Tate would be an excellent addition to stretch the field and be a playmaker for Baker.

Donte Moncreif - Jacksonville - Getting away from Bortles alone would help. He always flashed talent in Indy and Jax, but his career was on an upward trajectory until he stopped having good QB play. He's still only 25, this is another project who would play up in this offense. 6'2, 220 with a 39'' vertical and good quickness.

Adam Humphries - Tampa Bay - I know, I know. He's a slot guy, but he's really good and also just 25. Let's focus on what he does well, and how he can help this team. Incredibly consistent and reliable, moves the chains at a good clip, runs very good route. All of which would work with Monken/Kitchens.

John Brown - Baltimore - A little older than the rest, but probably the only other receiver I'd consider for his deep speed and field stretching abilities.

Tight End:
Maxx Williams - Baltimore - Chance to steal away a good TE from a division rival. Good blocking TE and will not turn 25 until later this year. Never had a QB adept at getting tight ends the football, and wouldn't need to be a major volume guy with Njoku.

Demetrius Harris - Kansas City - Obviously has ties to Dorsey, and has been used primarily as a matchup receiver. Given the overall lack of size at receiver, could be an interesting fit.

Defensive End:
Preston Smith - Washington - Underrated pass rush specialist that spent most of his time on the same side as Garrett. If he's willing to play the stronger side, I think he'd be a great pair.

Za'Darius Smith - Baltimore - Busted out this year with 24 pressure and 9 sacks. Go steal him from a rival and plug him in.

Brandon Graham - Philadelphia - Going to be 31, but still has gas in the tank. Developed veteran who would benefit by having Garrett on the opposite side.

Benson Mayowa - Arizona - Journeyman lineman played with Wilkes last year in Arizona. Similar numbers to Graham, but three years younger.

Defensive Tackle:
Malcom Brown - New England - Hesitant to invest in Pats players, but Brown has been a favorite of mine since he came out. Still only 25 and knows how to stuff the run well. Could be the 1-tech who allows LarryO to move to his more natural 3-tech.

Rodney Gunter - Arizona - Another Wilkes guy, he really broke out this year and turned into a strong player. Would be more of a 3-tech, but obviously has some connections here.

Linebacker:
Jordan Hicks - Philadelphia - He's going to get paid. Best on the market, IMO. Three-down player would be a much better fit than Collins.

Anthony Barr - Minnesota - Has somewhat tailed off career wise, and hasn't been as good in coverage as he once was. That said, I think this is a reclamation project type of guy who won't get paid as well as some thing.

Gerald Hodges - Arizona - Another Wilkes guy who could fit. Really think he's underrated as a player, he always seems like he's around the ball.

Kwon Alexander - Tampa Bay - Coming off an ACL, plays with some reckless abandon.

LJ Fort - Pittsburgh - Former Brown finally found a home in Pittsburgh, but he's a good player. Would be interested to bring him back.

Cornerback:
Steven Nelson - Kansas City - Former Dorsey pick, had an up and down year and was getting picked on a bit towards the end. They struck gold in Mitchell last year, maybe they'll dip into that pool again.

I'm here for Moncrief, JBrown, or Demetrius Harris on offense.

Alexander or Fort at LB too.
