I thought it might be fun to make predictions now that the schedule is released. I will attempt mine even though it is way early and we have no clue how much or if Watson will play.

Sep 11 1PM Browns at Panthers.

I have the Browns finally winning an opening game to start their season. 1-0

Sept 18 1PM Jets at Browns

New York has improved their roster. But, I can't justify picking them in the Browns home opener. 2-0.

Sept 22 815PM Steelers at Browns

I am going with the Browns despite their dismal track record against the hated Black and Gold. 3-0

October 2 1PM Browns at Falcons

Falcons should be pretty bad. I think the Browns get it done here. 4-0

October 9 1PM Chargers at Browns

I am going with the Chargers here. I like that team. Browns finally drop one. 4-1

October 16 1PM Patriots at Browns

I think the Browns take this one. NE is likely on the decline. 5-1

October 23 1PM Browns at Ravens

Browns bite the dust in Charm City as usual. 5-2

October 31 815PM Bengals at Browns

Bengals spoil Halloween in Cleveland. 5-3

November 13 1PM Browns at Dolphins

I like the Browns in this one. 6-3

November 20 1PM Browns at Bills

Of all of the games on the schedule, this one seems the least likely to go the Browns way. 6-4

November 27 1PM Bucs at Browns

I am taking Brady and Tampa in this one. 6-5

December 4 1PM Browns at Texans

In theory, should be one of the easier games. 7-5.

December 11 1PM Browns at Bengals

Tough sledding for the good guys in this one. 7-6

December 18 TBD Ravens at Browns

Not sure why, but I am going with the Browns in this one. 8-6

December 24 1PM Saints at Browns

Saints may be the best team in the NFC South. It will be a rotten Christmas Eve in Cleveland. 8-7

January 1 1PM Commanders at Browns

Browns ring in 2023 with a triumph. 9-7

January 8 TBD Browns at Steelers

Ugh. When have the Browns ever finished the season with a win in Pittsburgh? 9-8.

I have them going 9-8. It looks like the beginning of the season has a favorable schedule. But, it gets tougher toward the end. I have no idea if 9-8 is good enough to win a wildcard slot. Most likely, it won't since the AFC is competitive.

I have them 10-6 going into the week 17 game at Pittsburgh. That one would likely decide if the Browns make the playoffs or not.

I actually don't vehemently disagree with any of these, but this would be a massive disappointment IMO.

Judging by what I saw from the defense towards last season's end plus a year of continuity plus a year of seasoning for the young core contributors, I expect a top half defense this year.

And judging by what Stefanski was able to wring out of a lost season offensively last year, with Watson at the helm I'd expect a top 5 offense.

What I would hope for, assuming my above assessments hold true:

@CAR - W
NYJ - W
PIT - W
@ATL - W
LAC - L
NE - W
@BAL - L
CIN - W
@MIA - W
@BUF - L
TB - L
@HOU - W
@CIN - L
BAL - W
NO - W
WSH - W
@PIT - W

12-5 should be completely within our power with splits against CIN and BAL and a sweep of PIT.

Alas, they always seem to disappoint.

I think our defense is going to be the deciding factor for a few of these wins. I think we'll have a top 7 offense and a top 10 defense.

  • @CAR - W 20-13: I'm not worried about their QB (whoever it will be) but I can see this being a close game as we try to find some rhythm on offense
  • NYJ - W 29-14: I don't think Wilson is special and if he does put it together, likely to be later in the year
  • PIT - W 23-17: No respect for Pickett/Trubisky. Steelers fans don't realize just how much it helped them when Ben was getting rid of the ball in .00001 seconds
  • @ATL - W 42-7: Mariota? Lol
  • LAC - L 23-40: Chargers have a scary defense on paper and Herbert is the truth. I honestly think they match up well with us, and Herbert gives our defense problems. I could see them blowing us out and the narrative being, "Can the Browns match up with the good AFC teams?"
  • NE - W 28-16: McDaniels scheming was brilliant and I think Mac Jones will regress
  • @BAL - W 21-17: 2021 Lamar is the most realistic one, IMO, and if not for some fluke victories they'd have won like 5 games. I think the league has slowly started figuring him out
  • CIN - W 37-25: We run all over them. They can't stop the run/Chubb.
  • @MIA - W 27-24: Not much fear of Tua but I think this could be a close game
  • @BUF - L 31-34: Josh Allen will give us problems
  • TB - W 21-20: I think our defense gets us this win. They played very well against Aaron Rodgers and I feel they can do the same with Brady. I know this isn't popular but... I think we can get this done at home.
  • @HOU - W 33-10: We blow them out
  • @CIN - L 17-31: I think they're going to get the monkey off their back and beat us. I could see Burrow + Chase having a big game
  • BAL - W 30-22: Same as the 1st game
  • NO - L 27-28: I think Winston has a strong performance and they take us down
  • WSH - W 30-17: Not really a team to worry about
  • @PIT - L 16-23: Rest our starters
12-5 +97 Point Differential

Week 1 - On September 11th Watson throws a touchdown in the opening drive, then Baker Mayfield throws for 350 yards for Carolina. Browns lose in a close one 18 - 7.

September 18th - Home opener, and Amari Cooper blows out his knee. Nick Chubb runs for 134 yards and your goldfish dies. Jets win 22 -14.

September 22 - Steelers come to town and Watson is suspended for his genitals touching Nick Harris's rear end during a halftime ending drive. JOK sprains his spleen. NBC announces the Mr. T has a new show and nobody notices. Browns lose 17 - 5.

October 2nd - Browns beat the Falcons on the road but you didn't watch. You installed vinyl floor laminate because you hate this team. This win makes you hate them more.

October 9th - Chargers win 51 - Q. The score is a result of Vladimir Putin becoming emperor of North America and switching away from the Arabic numerical system. Watson throws for 340 yards in garbage time.

October 16th - Patriots beat Cleveland because Brian Hoyer comes in and thoroughly outpaces Watson. The strange part is that Hoyer died in a tragic highway car accident a week before. God is a total fuckface. Two sacks for Myles Garrett.

October 23rd - Browns beat the Ravens unexpectedly. You missed the game because you complained about the Browns all last weekend and your wife made you go apple picking.

October 31st. Happy Halloween, the Browns lose. Taven Bryan is waived and everybody is happy about that. Watson is suspended for weed after getting off scott free for the penis stuff. You dress as Emperor Putin and hook up with a fat chick dressed like Trump.

November 7th Bye week. Got to keep this as accurate as possible.

November 13th - Funeral of a loved one. Miss the game. Browns beat the Dolphins by 28 points. Jakeem Grant returns two punts for touchdowns and you miss it all. Thanks, COVID Sigma Variant.

November 20th - Browns lose by 3 to the Bills. It's a pretty good game. Cooper is back and Watson establishes a connection. People around you wonder why you stopped wearing shirts.

November 27th - Tom Brady wins, you carve the Thanksgiving cabbage which is a thing now. Chubb only carries the ball six times and Emperor Putin wants answers. Stefanski disappears in the night, never to be seen again.

December 4th - Who cares about the NFL, the Cavs are hot fire this year.

9-8. They win some games they shouldn’t, they lose some games they shouldn’t.

2-15 - Watson is suspended for life and Browns end up giving out the worst Professional Contract in the history of Sports...

On the bright side, if Watson did get suspended for life, the Browns would only be on the hook for his signing bonus :chuckle:

In the comments he explained that he doesn’t believe Watson plays this season. So if that’s the case I can at least understand his viewpoint.

Although I’d counter that even average QB play is a step up from last year.
