2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Naw, contracts for sports players is an agreement that you have a general idea on where you will be living and working. To sign what Straw did, says he is committed to Cleveland and Cleveland is committed to him. So for 22/23 when his contract is 100% guaranteed CF is his with a long leash. If you decided as the Cleveland's FO to essentially back out now to that commitment, you will lose the goodwill of the other players and lower the likelihood of them signing a similar style of extension. Small market teams have to live by the type of extensions Straw made. If players will not sign them, it will make running a small market team way harder... Now, come mid 23 he is still hitting .200, his status as a starter will change, but for now, as long as he continues to play hard and be the best defensive CF in baseball, he will be starting normally...
Calling Straw the best defensive CF is likely hyperbole, but agree with the rest of your post. Plus he is a clear gamer and team player and not the kind that you'd want to move out.

It's a very interesting claim that seems to just be accepted as truth around here. It's almost like the worse Straw hits, the louder and more consistent the "muh muh muh best defensive CF in the game" claims become.

Wonder why that could be. Hmmmmm.

Brennan/Benson > Straw

It's insane that we're finally getting what we hoped for out of our 2016 First Rounder and yet we can't find any room for him because we were in a hurry to give guaranteed money to some jobber castoff from the Astros organization. FFS.

Kwan/Benson/OGoatz/Jones/Valera Hell Brennan. We don't have room for this .210 slap hitting guy. Get rid of him STAT.

I'd move him out for a better overall performer. Therein lies the difference with me. Under the current organizational circumstances there is little reason to have any position player other than Ramirez guaranteed a damn thing. There's just too much up and coming talent.

So, is Kwan, Brennan or Benson better CF options? I don't know and we're probably not going to find out.

It's not hyperbole, look at the numbers...

He is one of the top candidates for the Platinum Glove not just the gold glove...

Yeah I remember looking at the stats last year and he was in the top tier but not necessarily top. Over 2021-2022 he actually leads Fangraphs Defense stat for OFs. So yeah I think you have a point there... he may literally be THE best. Regardless though he is providing a ton of value with his ability to save runs and with our current SP squad that is essential. TMac is a flyball machine when he's not getting K's, and the rest outside of Bieber don't get a ton of K's. So this squad that pitches to contact which includes fly balls can definitely be helped immensely by a Straw out there.

I’m getting excited for Rocchio again, I think he eventually passes up Freeman and Arias when it all said in done ….….Who’s had the better glove for SS Gimenez or Rocchio ?

I've always felt that Rocchio was the best of our MIF prospects...a switch hitter that makes contact and plays superb defense.

The power will come. He hit 15 bombs last year and will still develop physically. He also will steal around 20 bases.

His numbers this year are depressed by a low BABIP and a bout with a concussion, but he's still carrying a wRC+ of 111.

Brennan is going, hey I see what Kwan is doing and I can do it better! I don't know how we keep him out of the bigs at this rate...

Also with Brennan, how did the national media not have him above our top 30 prospects to begin with. He has been solid in every aspect of the game so far before this season started. If he added any power to his swing, he was going to legitimately take off in my.

...tells you the value of prospect lists...

Alright I want to do a quick update on our prospect list... this is of course if everyone signs...

DeLauter is rated a 55 FV so he would be somewhere between 2-9 so he is likely our 9th ranked prospect....

Campbell, Messick are rated a 50 FV, so they would be somewhere between 10-14

Lampe, Humphries and Zibin are a 45 FV, so they would be in the 15-30 range...

not including anyone who has changed, All of our top 30 prospects are 45 FV or higher after the draft and international signings get added...

He has power and not just to the pull side, but he isn't going to sacrifice his style and approach to hit bombs. They'll come at a natural progression rather than making a concentrated effort to hit more. I think he's a special player and would be a standout, top of the league CFer. He's just a very well rounded player IMO. I'll go as far as saying I very well may like him more than Valera and I love Valera.

Brennan just isn't an upgrade in 22 in LF, we would have to play him over Jones/OGonz in RF... I am not against playing him, just with Straw cemented in CF, and Kwan cemented in LF, plus Jones and OGonz in front of him on the depth chart and on the 40 man, he just doesn't have an open spot...
