2022 Minor League Week 20 Games Thread (8/16 - 8/21/22)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Great play by Rocchio. The reaction at 1B by Arias isn't though. And I've seen a lot of this from him in little glimpses. Just doesn't seem like a team guy. Getting Erik Gonzalez vibes with him. Arias is obviously a much better prospect and talent, but I've yet to see the "it" factor that is clearly there with Rocchio, Valera, Espino and G. Williams

I'm not that high on Arias either, mostly due to the disturbing swing and miss in his profile, but it seems unfair to claim he isn't a "team guy" because he didn't celebrate to your liking after Rocchio's brilliant play at SS.

I don't need a Josh Naylor like celebration, but the whole body language was bad. It was a game saving play up 1 run and he just turned around and headed to the dugout, no glove pointing or even looking at Rocchio for any kind of acknowledgement.

It's particularly salty, because obviously Rocchio is playing his position now and "stealing" his shine and he reacted like it. That's just not a cool vibe.

And again, it stuck with me, because I've gotten a similar vibe from Arias in ST and other plays I've seen. The hype got to him, Manning all but anointed him the SS of the future in ST and maybe his ego didn't fit in a Columbus uniform anymore. Even the Columbus announcer recently said Arias looked "more into it in games", so he picked off some of that careless body language too.

I disagree that Arias is obviously a much better prospect than Rocchio...just as I disagreed with the idea that Arias was a better prospect/option than Gimenez.

Rocchio has consistently been a more productive hitter. Arias Ks a lot more.. Arias may have a little more power, but Rocchio gets more XBHs. Arias has a better arm, but Rocchio has a quicker release.

I can't address attitude and intangibles, except that Rocchio gets consistently rave reviews.

If Arias has problems with being stuck in AAA or changing positions, he will follow the same path as kids like Francisco Mejia and Yandy.

He was saying Arias > Erik Gonzalez as a prospect.

Cats, I had Gimenez and Rocchio as my no 1/2 prospect combo right after the Lindor trade, so you're barking up the wrong tree here.

Although they do a lot of cross training, this is a clear indication that Arias is only level with, or even below, in the pecking order with some of the other MIF(already in CLE and still in the Minors) instead of being traded like the clear priority/assumptive "future"

It's not a bad thing at all. Not for the organization(as this is a result of just how loaded we are between Giminez, Rosario, Freeman, Rochio, Arias, Angel Martinez). Not for the player(multiple pathways to regular MLB at bats is better than just one pathway. It also makes him potentially more viable as a trade chip to another ORG who still sees him as a plus prospect but maybe is already set or deep at SS as well.

Hopefully Arias himself is handling the with maturity and seeing it as an opportunity to increase his value and versatility rather than seeing it as a lack of belief in him or lack of respect to him.

Clippers are pure insanity.

NBA Clippers have to be jealous.

I’m not looking into nothing by Arias playing different positions, I’m seeing it as a way to get him in the lineups when they expand in September, another option at First, since technically Miller is the only other option at first, and on the bench we have no RHH OF option……

What 3 names are you adding when rosters expand???

You bring up a good point about the flexibility with Arias so my 3 would be: Lavastida, Arias & Cody Morris..

Well the Sunday games are now concluded with the CLE full season group going 3-1 with a +5 dun diff. There was 1 rain-out among the minor league affiliates on Sunday while Lake County finished their suspended game from Saturday.

On the week the group went 13-11 with a +1 run diff. Not bad at all consider the week began with a 2-6 record after Tuesday & Wednesday.

The week 21 game thread will be posted at some point on Monday evening...

Good call on Morris and Arias, I understand why you would say Lavastida, but part of me think it would be a waste spot, unless Hedges is more bang up then we know…..I’m thinking another pitcher unless the new rules prohibit how many pitchers you can have, so either McCarthy or Burns
