2022 Summer League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought Ochai's ball handling was good in this game, he was fighting over curls, getting the ball, and made something happen with the ball while keeping his dribble. There was a play where Ochai caught the ball on the left wing and his defender (McGowens?) was playing him to his right and was up in his grill daring him to shoot a contested three. Ochai went left to the basket quickly and got a layup/foul. Just seeing him do that instead of passing out was really cool. Defenders are going to play him close on his catches, if he can mix in those kinds of drives successfully (even with a slower first step), it could have a positive cumulative effect in how teams guard him.

I like how he mixed it up in this one and again, his volume and high percentage of threes even with the less than ideal conditions of summer league has been awesome to see.

Good call on his quick release and split second decisions (without overthinking) on his shot attempts @RchfldCavRaised and others whom made reference to that

He's flat footed as an athlete just like Danny Green. Danny is pigeon-toed and it affects his functional ahtleticism.

I dont think Agjabi is that, but he jumps and pushes off the heel of his foot when he builds momentum for jumping/running and it makes him kinda flat footed or stuck in the mud as a athlete at game speed. Jalen Williams is too but he's crafty with the ball and knows how to create separation for his jumper and dribble.

It stands out when you see natural athletes like Bryce blow by him while he needs a head of steam and to play angles to return the favor.

But that will come with time, just like it did for Danny. He learned to negotiate underwhelming athleticism after a few years so we'll have to hope Och can do that here in less time.

He is bow legged, so perhaps that is why.

So here's my thing, I get Agbaji still doesn't give us a secondary creator in the starting lineup and that's a problem.

But I'm gonna need to see something from Okoro really, really early in the season to convince he should be starting ahead of Agbaji and getting minutes ahead of LeVert.

Agbaji will give us some much need shooting. I don't know what Okoro gives us.
I think he could probably create if need be & he has NBA level talent around him. His 1st step seems quick enough to get by average defenders. The problem is, atleast what I am seeing anytime he tries to penetrate is the help defender either hedges or doubles. If he had a competent big, he would probably get more 1-on-1 scenarios.

Most impressive thing is how he can shoot some really, really high arcing shots when he needs to.

That gives him the potential to really be a deadly sniper from 3 who can get his shot off in spots other guys can't.

I didn't know he had that in him.

I think people get way too caught in age. I was too, but after seeing Chris Duarte get drafted in the lottery at 24, and played well, it reminded me that NBA players used to be 21+ going into the NBA. MJ, Magic, Bird, Worthy, Kareem etc were all old players. Ochai not even close to being complete.

I’ve seen glimpses of what I needed to see from Ochai to know he could possibly turn into a 2 way guard. Hopefully the Cavs have a good plan in place, which I doubt, but I think Ochai is smart enough to know his flaws and work on them.

I stopped being down on the Ochai pick when I thought about Desmond Bane. Who I think was a similar prospect to Ochai. Bane was. 4 year player who was viewed as a finished product he went 30th. Boston drafted Aaron Nesmith in the same draft at 14 overall. Nesmith was viewed as having more upside. Funny thing is Bane was picked with Bostons actual draft pick and Nesmith was picked with the Grizzlies pick.

This isn't just rudimentary stuff, he's had a few of these a game that makes me wonder if/hope that we're a couple of years away from some real craft in a PNR. He knows he wants to hit the roll man from the beginning but he uses a hesi and steps towards the sideline to force the big to step up and open up the angle for a better pass and roll.

This is what I want to see more of. The shooting, that’s table stakes. He was drafted to shoot. It’s like praising a bird for flying. That’s doing your job.

This was a nice feed. If he can develop and get more than 1 assist (today’s stat line) then I’ll start to get more excited.

I don’t know what game you’re watching, but they absolutely do.

This isn’t an Okoro situation. He’s respected as a scorer by the defense.
LeVert always prefers to dribble into the midrange for a jump shot.

Nobody is running him off the perimeter.

Yeah, I’m watching him shoot with little space—change trajectory and unlimited range—and I no longer have a doubt about anything shooting related.

At first, we kind of thought if he’s a 37-38% NBA shooter we’d be happy.

He’s too pure for that. I think he has 40%-42% career 3-point shooter all over him.

Once we have Donovan we can package him up with Sexton and Diop and get Durant + Smokin Joe Harris

Sexton would surely be going back to Utah in a deal for Mitchell. And Durant would just tell the Cavs to trade him again. I highly doubt he wants to play in LeBrons shadow in Cleveland.
