2022 UDFAs

Super interesting

Weston is also a year and a half older, which is kind of a big deal. Watson was already an old prospect at just under 23 on draft day. Weston will be over 25 when the season starts. Of course, we also didn't use our second on him, or any pick at all, so whatever. It's a dart throw that probably won't work out, but no risk involved.

This is a great low risk signing since his athletics say he has a ton of upside and he was a productive WR in college...

Got rid of one Hooper and got another

He only played 2 years and had to go to another sport as an UDFA? Doesn’t seem like a great plan. Probably should have stayed in school.

While I'm sure all the, um, youthful WRs are nice and all, we can't seriously be thinking of spending a quarter billion dollars and 3 day one drafts for Deshaun Watson and then handing him Amari Cooper plus a bunch of "whosits?" at wideout, can we? Though I much prefer drafting WRs in rounds 1 and/or 2, we now really need to be aggressive in free agency at the position IMO.

There’s still a lot of time left in the off-season. There will be some unexpected cap casualties. I think Hunt or DEJ get traded which could net us another WR as well. We have a good amount of cap space, so it’s going to pay to be patient.

I also think there’s a good chance we see Bryant and Njoku on the field together a lot, but instead of having a double TE set, one would be on the line and one split out wide or in the slot to try to get them matched up on DBs. That could potentially lessen the need at WR. Still think we sign or trade for at least one more key guy though.

He was a VCU transfer, used up his eligibility, got his degree, now pursuing his dream of being a professional athlete, he is 6'7 250lbs and athletic, numerous PF's in college have been succesful in the NFL as TE's, some with zero college football experience.

Sounds like a fantastic plan and if he fails in the NFL, he gave it a shot and moves on with his life.

If Weston plays that fast at that size, he wouldn't really need to be a nuanced route runner to be useful for Deshaun. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it over Woods.

At least practice squad him as Schwartz's direct backup

I love these kind of low-risk, potential high-upside signings.

The need to impress is high at developmental tight end. If he looks like a gifted plus receiver, that only lands him on a practice squad. Becoming a technically sound run and pass isn't a one year project.

Many athletes trying to convert to tight end don't realize it's the second most cerebral position on the offense.

The five guys I think have best chance of making the roster or PS:

WR Isaiah Weston
TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden
OL Ben Petrula
DT Glen Logan
CB Shaun Jolly

Weston could have very well been drafted and nobody batted an eye, and I'm honestly surprised he didn't.. His age likely held him back but he seems destined for a PS squad spot unless he can unseat Mike Woods..

The Browns only have two TEs and haven't added any veterans yet, so Mitchell could very likely play himself onto the roster..

Petrula got $100K in UDFA money which was the biggest amount they doled out.. With tackle depth lacking, he could play himself on the roster but at the very least on the PS...

Logan also got $60k in UDFA money and being thin up front, it'll be interesting to see what noise Logan can make..

Completely unscientific, but I'm getting a serious "football guy" vibe here.
