2023-24 Regular Season Thread II: March Toward Destiny

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
MSN:

No. 1 Boston vs. No. 8 seed: from winner of No. 7 Philadelphia-No. 8 Miami play-in game loser vs. No. 9 Chicago-No. 10 Atlanta play-in game winner.

No. 2 New York vs. No. 7 seed: Winner of the No. 8 Miami at No. 7 Philadelphia play-in game winner

No. 3 Milwaukee vs. No. 6 Indiana
No. 4 Cleveland vs. No. 5 Orlando

I dislike the pay-in game loser vs the play-in game winner from the other series..if you lose you should be out...period..

I think the whole play in game should be selective. IF any teams outside of 8 are within 1 game of 8, it makes sense. They shouldn't even drag 7 into this. The Hawks are a full 10 games behind 8. They do not deserve to make the playoffs off one game and one of the 7th and 8th seeds has to play 2 additional games than everyone else to prove they deserve the 8th spot. It should at the worst be 9 and 10 play and the winner plays 8. But really it should be 9 plays 8 if they're within a game. And if multiple teams are within a game of 8, the head to head comes into account.

Nah, the rules they have in place are way better than what you're proposing.

ESPN's take on Cavs game

It was a wild day of results around the Eastern Conference. The Cleveland Cavaliers seemingly went out of their way to ensure that they were the fourth seed by using their end-of-bench players down the stretch and losing to the hapless Charlotte Hornets, who had basically their entire rotation ruled out before the game. The Hornets outscored Cleveland 32-14 in the fourth quarter.

"Yeah, I mean we were trying," Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters after the game. "Again, in live time it's hard to get all that information. We were aware as some of that stuff was going on.

Why not just have the 9 vs 10...winner takes on 8 seed...winner takes on 7 seed.?

How does that work when we need two teams to make the playoffs? You said any loss means you’re done so in your proposal there would be no 8 seed and the 1 seed gets a first round bye.

Implausible deniability.

I’m not sure how anyone could possibly be against the play-in/ playoff format as currently constructed. So many spots were unknown until the completion of the 82nd game and it’s virtually been that way since the change was made. Moreover, the first round games have been more than competitive since its introduction with Miami making it to the Finals. Do you remember how boring and non competitive first round playoff games were prior to the implementation of the new system? Virtually every 1 seed vs 8 seed was an awful series for years, same with 2 vs 7.

Are you serious? You think a team with 10 wins less than the #8 seed deserves a shot at the playoffs? Man, the standards have really dropped around here.

Right, because the first round gets more competitive if the 10th seed or 9th seed plays the 1st?

Wow what a regular season!

Stock up / down report for the Cavs roster:

Stock up: Sam Merrill

Stock down: the rest of the team

Horse Hockey.

Mitchell expanded his PG game.

JA had a better season.

Strus was fine.

Mobley improved in several aspects.

We had a lot of injuries. It happens. Doesn't mean our players are worse.
