2023-24 Season | Game #24 | Cavs @ Celtics | Dec. 12, 2023 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We're live but not as good as the RCF Rubber Rim Job podcast live react (make sure you listen/watch)..

One note: The issue the Celtics really exposed is the Cavs lack of point of attack defense. We saw it when Isaac Okoro was out, and we really saw it tonight when Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum went up against Georges Niang, Dean Wade, Caris LeVert, and Isaac Okoro. You can add Mobley back in there but that’s simply not going to cut it come playoff time. The Cavs have a big wing problem (look no further than Paolo Banchero) and don’t have the defensive counter to it on the roster. You can throw those guys out there, and those guys will get there’s. But the Cavs don’t have the size/speed/strength combo to successfully combat those types all game long while also challenging them offensively. If there’s a trade deadline goal for Koby Altman, it’s finding that skill set.

Trust me….there isn’t one out there! Not without giving up a “core” piece.

Unless we really want to give up Allen. He is the only core piece I would trade. But then you have to also find a center because Mobley can’t handle the 5 spot night in and night out. Too light in the ass.

Wade needs one basket for double digit scoring the first time this season, I predict he doesn’t make it

I was correct, didn’t make it. I think he’ll eventually score 10+ points in a game this season but we’re almost a third of the way thru and he hasn’t done it yet. Since that shoulder injury showed up in late November 2022 he’s only scored double digits in a game twice. He looked like a more promising offensive player earlier in his career frankly

There are some real positives to take from this game but while watching it I couldn't help feel that the Celtics were completely asleep for the first half. I think they expected a schedule win and then had to suck it up at half time.

Good to see the cavs shoot well just wish we had kept going to the split action instead of pick and roll hero ball in the 4th.

A game we could've really used Evan Mobley on the defensive end. Again with the free throw discrepancy, 17 more for the Celtics is just frustrating. Another thing is that they seem to manage to knock down every open look from three, Cavs didn't do this.

Schwartz elevated to HC....

Chris Quinn comes in to coach Cavs.

Deal or no deal?
No deal. Schwartz has been a great defensive coach; that doesn't necessarily translate to a head coach. I'd say there'd be a less than 50% chance he'd be better.

I don't know who Chris Quinn is. If you said Eric Spoelstra or Ty Lue, I'd agree in a second.

Some scores of other Celtics' home games this year against their stronger opponents:

Boston 155, Indy 104
Boston 119, Milwaukee 116
Boston 125, Philly 119
Boston 114, Knicks 98
Boston 133, Knicks 123
Boston 119, Miami 111
Boston 121, Brooklyn 107

The Celtics are now 11-0 at home. Losing by 7 points with our best defensive player out is not bad at all, especially given that they arrived in Boston at 2 a.m. while the Celtics had three days off and no injuries.

I want to see these teams play in Cleveland with everybody healthy and both teams having a day or two off.

That being said, the Celtics came out sloppy in the first quarter and let the Cavs build a 12-point lead. Maybe they were complacent and expecting an easy win. They battled back to within one point at halftime and both teams slugged it out evenly for 18 minutes after halftime before the Cavs broke.

After the game the Cavs were complaining about the refereeing but it looked to me like Tatum and Porzingus were just too quick, big, and skilled to be defended without fouling them. They combined for 18 of the 26 free throws. The Cavs need to keep their hands back when contesting jump shots so they don't contact the shooter's forearm on his follow-through.

Moral victory for sure, but i fucking hate moral victories.

Quinn has been coaching under Spoelstra for almost 10 years, is from Ohio, and also played for the Cavs briefly.
