2023-24 Season | Game #29 | Pelicans @ Cavs | Dec. 21, 2023 | 7:30 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This game was painful enough that I didn't put up a fight when my wife wanted change the channel to "98 years of Dick" on CBS. The plus side is that I got to see William Shatner, Mel Brook and Billy Elish all share how blessed they were to have had Dick in their lives.

we average about 6 free-throw attempts a game at home
And the league average is what? 23?

The game plan and the Coach have to go. JBB might have been able to work with 3 7footers, but he’s no good with this current lineup.

  • Their defensive rating on the night was a scary 131.6 – that is third worst on the season. The Houston game was 5th worst, the Hawks 9th worst, and the Jazz 10th worst. That’s called the Evan Mobley effect. When Jarrett Allen has been on the court without Mobley, the Cavs have allowed 122 points per 100 possessions which is 13th percentile, or bad. Opposing team’s eFG%, or effective field goal percentage which adjusts for three pointers, is 58.1% (8th percentile). When you don’t have strong perimeter defenders, removing a back link defender hurts.

With 60% of our starters out including the three leading scorers the “current lineup” is a bit depleted.

The JBB hate train has neither brakes nor a dead man’s pedal.

That was a schedule loss but I love the way Okoro and Wade's three-point shooting is dramatically improving and Allen's offensive game is coming along. Allen was 7-for-8 from the field including a 17-foot jumper and a variety of shots off post moves.

Okoro is shooing 39% on 3's this month and is starting to make them from the angles, not just the corner. Wade has hit an amazing 17 of his last 27 threes. Combine that with his defense and he is turning into a very good player on both ends. Wade had 20 points and 9 rebounds in 26 minutes and did a nice job on Ingram, forcing him to pick the ball up and pass it several times when he wanted to shoot. Dean also had two blocked shots.

The growth of Wade, Okoro, and Allen offensively with Mobley and Garland out has been really encouraging. Not to mention Porter getting a lot of valuable playing time. This team is going to be better in February than they were in December due to the injuries to Garland and Mobley.

The Pelicans are very good; Brad Daugherty said he was "shocked" at their length. Trey Murphy III was outstanding with 28 points in only 16 shots, going 6-for-10 on 3's. Their bench was excellent with three players between +16 and +20. Having Merrill out with a shooting wrist injury didn't help our bench, but the Pelis are near the top at preventing 3's so this team was not a good matchup for Sam.

We might beat Houston without Mitchell, Garland, and Mobley, but not the Pelicans with only Williamson out among their key players.

On a more somber note:
WHEN DOES CADE CUNNINGHAM DEMAND A TRADE OUT OF DETOIT?
They have now lost 26 in a roll!
They tied our 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers records at 26. The 76ers hold the overall mark at 28, a skid that started in the 2014-15 season and carried over into 2015-16.
Fans in Motown tonight were chanting “Sell the team”!
I know Isiah Thomas ain’t singing
“Deeeeeetroit Basketbaaaaaall” now!

Guess things could be worst for us, huh?

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone under 30 that appeared on this show was lying through their fucking teeth about like Dick VD. I saw some chick talking about how she used to tape his dancing and mimic it... Don't fucking lie just to get onto a show. No way this shit happened. The older generation? Maybe. Dick VD was the shit in the 60s and 70s. I'm 43, I liked the guy, but I wasn't recording over my old VHS tapes to memorize his dances. Just get that bullshit lying out of here.

Allen made 7 of 8, but only took 8 shots. That is crazy. Games like this the little guys get stymied, but they don't feed the bigs. Wade and Allen were killing them. Didn't get that many shots.
