2023-24 Season | Game #30 | Cavs @ Bulls | Dec. 23, 2023 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wouldn't go there, but he really does coach better when he doesn't have his best players.

JBB is the perfect coach for a young team, still finding itself. Not the right coach for a team trying to contend.

For all the hate he gets here, he knows how to keep the players motivated. The offense looks more dynamic this past couple of games and that is without DM or DG.

Maybe it isn’t 100% on JBB? Maybe the starting players bear some responsibility or they are misfit toys to some extent?

Maybe having defensive, passing and rebounding players helps us win?

Maybe it helps to have a confident floor general like CPJ?

I also think a lot of these players weren't developed by JBB and his staff. CPJ, Strus, Niang, Merrell, and TT are all guys who have come from other teams or the G-league. JBB allows the players to play how they want on offense, they might just be coming up with this structure out of necessity because of the lack of direction and structure by the staff.

Lots of love, and rightfully so, for Porter Jr. and Strus. But I want to call out Allen. What a monster game for him. Owned the boards, was an offensive hub, and scored well as more than just a lob threat.

A lot of folks have written him off as a finished product. I'm not sure that is true. It seems that there is more meat on the bone if we give him the opportunity.

I said it earlier in this thread...JBB gets the most out of players who aren't super talented, but have a lot to prove and will play hard, team ball every second they're on the court. That's why he exceeded expectations before we got Mitchell, that's why the team looks good once our stars went down.

There's something really weird with the Mitchell and JBB dynamic. JBB's own philosophy, changes, when he's there.

He's prone to just go with 'proven players' only, feeling the expectations are much different, like we're in win now mode, he can't afford to go the developmental approach at all (hence why Porter Jr is a no show), but it's like he can't walk a fine line with it. He can either go one way, or the other. And he can't figure a way to juggle both.

I think part of why he gets so much out of guys, is his encourages them to play more freely. I think the other night, I won't lie, this impressed me. Merrill had a shot, didn't take it, and it was a questionable shot for him, and JBB yelled at him to 'shoot it'. He was encouraging him to shoot the ball, without a stop sign.

He will install confidence in these guys to play, without reservations. I got to give him that. And I think the players actually do like him playing for him, the younger guys. Not so sure about the veterans TBH..

I never found JBB unlikable, just his coaching infuriates me at times. Comes across extremely likable, could easily have a beer with him and just bullshit with him.

Porter Jr would be untouchable to me as an asset, and he's on a 2 way contract. I actually think he can be really, really fucking good in this league. He plays with more maturity than Garland, if I'm going to be blunt. Not saying he's as talented.
