2023-24 Season | Game #43 | Cavs @ Bucks | Jan. 26, 2024 | 8:00 p.m.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m warning you and I’m warming my fingers

Might as well post now about how JBB lost tonight’s game:

1. Didn’t play CPJ enough.
2. Awful ATO plays.
3. JBB just sucks.

Since there is a segment here that is set on #3 it won’t matter if #1 and #2 don’t apply, you could still attack him on that basis without pushback.

He’s closer to CoY than getting fired.

When the team loses in round x*of the playoffs then he’ll be blamed for the loss and compared to Mark Jackson, then we’ll have a postseason campaign to fire him and fire Koby too for not firing JBB last year.

(x = 1 to 4).

If by some miracle we win it all the calls to fire him will be delayed for six months. Vogel, Bud and Nurse all got fired after winning rings; JBB isn’t Kerr so he’d be canned at some point anyway even with a ring.

Bucks have been torn on their defensive coverages all season.

Part of the justification for firing Bud was his system called for Lopez, Giannis and Portis to consistently DROP on HPNR or perimeter initiations and play something similar to the zone principles that had us giving up open 3's to ball movement teams. They got exploited by Spo in last years playoffs so bad by Miami just having a disciplined approach to ball movement and shooting them out of that drop coverage with their bigs.

Griffin promised to be more aggressive with his bigs defensive rotations, and then 10 games in, when the bigs were getting cooked and giving up everything at the rim AND their rebounding plummeted as a result of the downgrade at the point of attack from Jrue, Grayson and Jevon Carter to Dame, Bease and Cam Payne, he switched Lopez back to dedicated drop but kept Giannis and Portis in that blitz. Giannis and Portis rebound numbers have still cratered and none of the 3 guards who replaced the previous 3 guards are close to POA or rebounding like their predecessors, so they continued to be exploited and were winning against nonshooting teams off talent alone.

That first game after firing Griffin, I saw all three bigs back to Bud's DROP principle. But our two initiators weren't on their game and creating open shots and inspiring the ball to keep moving. As soon as Merrill checked in, he got 3-4 clean releases and the Bucks started blitzing HIM and dropping on everyone else.

We've got to counter them going back to Bud Drop D ball

Vert will play hero ball and throw up bricks that barely graze the rim, Mitchell will get sloppy with the ball and JBB will insist that CPJ still sits on the bench.

Not a single person on here can give a good reason why JBB has the rotations that he does.

This is a helpful analysis. In theory, the pass happy, 3 point shot happy, way we have been playing ought to work well. Get the ball moving and get 3 point shooters on the floor and we should be fine.

If we win the Finals in six they will be calling for his head because we didn't win in four.

This prediction is similar to the last one: We've got to shoot at least 36% from 3 and 50%+ from 2. I didn't say that last time, I assumed it. Plus we must play the uncomfortable defense like we did during our winning streak. That fell down last game.

As Wham said, if Allen and Mitchell hit their normal shots, we win the last game. I'm counting free throws too; Mitchell missing 3, which was odd for an 89% shooter. Add in better defense we've got a 125-120 victory. I'll give us a better chance, say 49% win chance this time. Bucks still have home court advantage.

Is Doc coaching tonight? If not, why hasn't he started yet?
