2023-24 Season | Game #55 | Cavs @ 76ers | Feb. 23, 2024 | 7:30 p.m. | ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it’s pretty clear: Without Mitchell, Cavs winnin’ nuthin’.
In all fairness we did win the 2nd quarter against the Magic last night.

Let’s not lose sight of that…

Unfortunately, after losing 4-1 in the playoffs to the NYK this post doesn’t hit like you think it does.

I had to watch a delayed version of the broadcast. My short take is that JBB inexplicably kept LeVert on the floor for way too many minutes when LeVert clearly didn't have it. Literally anyone else... CPJ or Merrill... and I think we would have won the game. Just way too many empty possessions from LeVert's numerous missed shots, the difference between winning and losing this game. There are other factors as well (free throws) but tonight Caris was the big problem. Why can't JBB see these things and go a different route?

Dean Wade +196 for the year.
Georges Niang +27 for the year.

Wade 39.7% from 3.
Niang 35.9% from 3.

Wade 4.2 rebounds for the year.
Niang 3.6 rebounds for the year. With more minutes.

We won’t even go into defense. Not in the same universe.

$$$$$$$$$.

Everyone keeps saying Donovan is the man and Garland ain’t it. Go back to 2 years ago and many here talked about how Garland was really good and decisive and that we needed one extra playmaker to take off the burden from Garland especially when Rubio went out.

Garland has played decently well these last 2 games and very different than the games he’s played previously. The offense still needs to move without the ball more. When LeVert keeps dribbling, the offense becomes more stagnant. There’s no extra pass.

These awful stretches are very natural for teams to have in a regular season. Can we overcome it? That’s our battle right now and let’s see how these next 10 games go. It’s going to be tough with lack of rest with this schedule so got to utilize our 9-10 players. Wade and Merrill should be getting more minutes. CPJ more if either Donovan or Garland is not playing.

Garland just hasn't had it since he returned. He is showing incremental improvement. He needs to keep improving. He needs to be more reliable with his three point shot, he needs to make fewer mistakes and turnovers. I think and hope he will improve between now and the post season. We need him being the best version of himself.

Worse than the last game, but the same issues:

Lackadaisical defense too often. Giving people space that should never have it.

SHOOTING IN THE TOILET (LeVert, BRO. Wide open bricks. Advantage bricks. Even Niang hit more 3s).
3-POINTER VOLUME IN THE TOILET. (Only 9 at the half???)
SMOKING FREE THROWS (both the bigs had 0-fers).

And for the first time in a long while, the JBB rotations frustrated. I really don't want to see the LeVert/Niang combo in a lineup ever again. What is going on with Dean that he can't get the nod?

I am not mad at DG. Felt like teammates were letting him down with the bricks.

Okoro was killing it tonight. Didn't show up on the stat sheet but watching what he was doing with the ball tonight and as always on defense looks like a guy ready to go for the postseason.

Why does Sam Merrill play better defense on Buddy Hield than anyone else?

The Cavs had THREE Sixers in foul trouble (while not actually really fouling much) late and could not ever capitalize.

Another 7 point loss...DAMMIT.
This team beat a 76er team WITH Embiid and without Donovan before. What gives, man?

JBB goes with street cred. Coaches feel pressure on feeding contracts. LeVert, Niang and Garland are here to stay for this season and the homers will continue to turn a blind eye.
