2023 Browns Training Camp Thread: Going to the Hall of Fame

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not that easy . It’s a bit different vs a guy running wide deep .
You're right that running up the seam is different than running a 9 on the boundary.

Goodwin would be like our fifth or sixth receiver depending on how you view the fourth outside guy versus the second slot guy... oh, and Njoku would still play even in five wide formations. Goodwin was never going to play many snaps.
  1. Cooper
  2. DPJ
  3. Moore
  4. Tillman
  5. Bell
  6. Goodwin
Elijah Moore can run a full route tree, including from the X or Z.

But... DPJ and Amari are still each better at winning deep than anyone else on the roster.

It sounds like Goodwin should get healthy and ready to go, but if he's unable to play this year, that opens the door a crack for Jakeem Grant to make a healthy return, or for Mike Woods to stick around.

No way bell was getting more snaps than your number one deep threat . Bell is not going do anything better or different than Peooles Jones or Tillman.

Probably not on Bell, but Goodwin does appear to be set for a very specialized role. “No. 1 deep threat” seems like a bit of a mischaracterization.

I don’t anticipate him playing that many snaps even if he is able to come back from the blood clots.

Not now becuase this is a significant injury but he was going to be apart of the offense pre illness .

Tillman and Moore will need to take that role but they are not the same player as Goodwin .

There rumors he was to be targeted 160+ times this season.

Bell is the assumed backup slot. Like I said in the post, whether Goodwin or Bell is sixth on the single list depends on how you want to rank a backup slot versus a fourth outside guy.

People like to just say "wide receiver" without discussing different roles--and the NFL just doesn't work that way.

The number one deep threat is Amari Cooper.

The number two deep threat is Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Wait, are you seriously under the impression that Marquise Goodwin was going to start ahead of Elijah Moore in 3 wide-out sets?

First, that was never going to happen. Moore should be a quality starting receiver in this league. Goodwin is a veteran depth piece.

Second, Moore plays a position, Y, that Goodwin cannot.

There was zero chance Goodwin would outsnap Moore this year outside of injury/off-field issues.

He wasn’t going to be as significant a part of the offense as you think.

At absolute best he was No. 4 in the WR pecking order and probably like No. 6 or 7 in target share behind the WRs in front of him, Njoku and Chubb.

He was going to be a field stretcher, but that’s still a specialized role.

Having a deep threat is pretty important to compliment the rest of the wr core. Not having one last year really hurt. Some really short memories in here….

Moore and Tillman may be able to be that guy but they don’t have his top end speed to force the safeties to play deeper and open up the middle of the field.

I am not saying the season is over but the offense is now less dynamic without the pure hr hitter.

Unfortunate Re: Goodwin. I’d think he’s done for the season. Hope he recovers without incident.

Just curious... do you think 32-year-old Marquise Goodwin is faster than 23-year-old Elijah Moore?

At his apex Goodwin was faster, but the gap wasn't that wide to begin with and it stands to reason than Moore is very much in his "speed prime" whereas Goodwin is probably a little past his.

I mean hell, Schwartz is faster than both of them and no one is even factoring him into the equation because there's obviously more to it than straight line speed.
