2023 Game #5 | #4 Ohio State vs. Maryland | October 7th, 2023 @ 12:00 PM EST

Yep.

And a quick shoutout to Trey Sermon, who went nuts at the end of the covid year.

Fuck. Yea Sermon too. He was good against clemson too i think.

Look man, Joel Klatt has kept referring to McCord as a "young QB."

He's 21. It's his 3rd year in college. It's game 5 of the season.

That can't be a label used on him forever.

Last two drives he started to make legit throws for the first time all season.

I used to love these game threads, but a select few have absolutely poisoned the well. There’s a bunch of Cleveland.com takes on every page.

I have 3 month old twins and I’ve spent the vast majority of this game rocking my son to sleep (he finally fell asleep on Stovers TD). So I can’t really participate in these threads. But now…who would want to.
Good to see ya around again, and congrats on the twins!

5 starts is a young qb...

I know yall want to air it out more but we have to keep trying to run because we aren't going to beat playoff level teams without a run game.

Just have to hope more reps gets the line going.

The two TD drives before that last one McCord made some really good throws. The big one to Marvin on that 3rd and forever. Then some throws over the middle where he actually gunned it in there and led his wideout.

That was a comforting finish for him after what, up to that point, was a pretty poor game. Like his numbers up to that point weren't bad, but again you saw some really, really bad underthrows to guys who were just so wide open they still caught the ball. But underthrows to the point that what should ahve been TDs were not.

Not at all a fan of McCord, but he engineered a game winning drive on the road against a top ten team two weeks ago.

Seems that a common theme with him this year is that he's utter dog shit in the first half and much improved in the second half.

That'll fly against the non-P5 schools, lower tier B1G schools, and Notre Dames of the world... but he's in for a world of hurt if he does that in two weeks against PSU.

I'm nervous for notorious Buckeye killer Purdue next week.

Eh. All of the years in the program, the practice reps, the backup reps...

I don't buy that.
Still only 5 true game reps.

Even Stroud struggled for that entire 1st year. Enough that people still wanted him to be benched. Expectations for these kids are beyond ridiculous. They are not going to be perfect, gotta make sure that we give them time to grow.

Penn st game will be huge. Allar might be younger, but has double the experience of McCord.

I said this earlier in the game thread, but that drive involved two throws directly into the arms of ND players who dropped the game sealing INTs.

We were very lucky.

Me too, lol. Road trip at Purdue sandwiched between Maryland and Penn State. The trappiest of trap games.

That thought crossed my mind as I posted.

That is a valid point, although even with the luck involved there, there is at least something to be said for him finishing that drive off in prime time on the road at one of the supposed hallmark programs in college football and all the outside noise that comes with it.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. In the case of that final drive, it was a mix of both.
