2023 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder.
Since Manzardo is not on BA's Top 100 Prospects list, if the pressure is off the Guardians to roster him on opening day in order to get that bonus draft pick?
If so, maybe they could squeeze DDLS onto the roster.
best guess (probably only guess).. In order for DDLS to make it onto the Guardians' OD roster, he'll have to have a killer spring and some misfortune by existing 40 man roster holders...

..realistically.. a deal like the one I posted at BTV (something similar) would be needed to "acquire" the rights to have DDLS sent to the minors for further seasoning..

Edit: here is the posted deal: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/160876;
Edit2: it should be noted that the deal as stated says the Guardians do not receive Kristian Robinson but would then receive the rights to DDLS. It can go either way.. Keeping DDLS would be preferred...

Arizona has zero leverage in any deal for DDLS, because he would have to pass waivers first before he could be offered back.

CLE just keeps him, plays him in ST and if he hits some bombs and impresses, some injuries around the league happen to open up roster spots, Arizona would be wise to take any discounted offer from CLE or a non contender would simply claim him.

Offer something like Milan Tolentino or some recent mid/late round draft pick. That's it, take it or lose DDSL for nothing

I liked Jairo Iriarte as a middle/back of the pen reliever/spot starter.. Trading away a LHH OF'er (Chill Will) for him would be a reasonable return.. Having the Padres send one of "their guys" to the DBax so the Guardians can keep DDLS was the scheme.. Or.. literally, for nothing from the Guardians..

So finally, we get some love from mlb pipe with Manzardo being 2nd 1B on their prospect list

But, of course, behind Isaac of TB ... as we can't be better than Tampa (who a week ago was listed by other team execs as getting the best prospect value in trades).

Rookie of the Year Award candidate: Manzardo
Opportunity and ability might meet up here perfectly. The Guardians got Manzardo from the Rays in the Aaron Civale deal last July. He’s long had a reputation as an advanced hitter and he started showing some developing power in the Arizona Fall League last year (.565 SLG), with more to come now that he’s put a shoulder injury that slowed him last year behind him.

Arizona is fine with losing DDLS for nothing, they will not accept a deal that isn't an overpay IMO - maybe one that is equitable but I doubt it. They are willing to let some team try to carry him all year until the waiver claims run out.

They drafted him knowing it would be a project and I believe they are prepared to ride or die for as long as possible and he may just last all year.

Just FYI, Brito was the 8th 2nd base prospect that came out today at mlb pipeline. But, don't get too excited because only 3 2nd base prospects were in their top 100 prospects per mlb (Norby at 4th missed the final top 100 list for 2023 but is not just 1 slot ahead of Brito in 7th with Mauricio also falling from 3rd to 6th -- or others jumping both of them).

Humblest beginning: Brito
Brito signed for only $60,000 out of the Dominican Republic in July 2018, making him an afterthought in Colorado’s international class that summer. He’s proven to be an above-average hitter in the 5 1/2 years since and is now closing in on Cleveland after being swapped straight-up for NL Rookie of the Year fourth-place finisher Nolan Jones in November 2022.

Churio getting stronger.
I hope this guy blasts through the system this season.

Here is Prospect1500 top-50 list. I just can't believe how much injuries hurt some in rankings (no eyes to see them). But, Campbell at 25 (14th last year) but Messick at 16. And then Espino at 5th (Brito 4th) but in Tier 3 -- Players with an average expectation of making the majors and being a solid contributor. Huh??? Even with injuries, he should be lock down closer like Clase. And, DDLS at 8th, shows why we may want to hide him as 13/14th position player to keep him ... Like I said before, have him run windsprints till he gets a pulled hammy ....opps (shouldn't say that).
