Coming off an impressive sweep of the Rangers, who had just swept Toronto in a four-game series up north, the Guardians head out for their final series against KC. The Guardians lead the series 7-3. The Royals are 48-102 overall, but have won four of five. They are 19 games under .500 at home and 35 under away, so they're just bad at home, not awful.

The Royals have scored just 26 runs in 10 games against the Guardians. You do the math. As a team they're hitting .204/.583 against Guardian pitching. Freddy Fermin is 8-for-17 and Michael Massey is 6-for-17 but otherwise nobody on their team has done much damage. However, Fermin is on the injured list.

The Guardians have scored 52 runs so they have doubled up the Royals in that category. The Royals' staff has a 5.44 ERA against the Guardians. To make matters worse, the Royals have FIVE left-handed pitchers on the IL. They have only three pitchers who have started more than 10 games this year; Singer, Greinke, and Lyles, who pitched yesterday.

Post All-Star the Royals are averaging 4.8 runs per game so their offense has picked up. They were 39 games under .500 going into the break and since then are 15 games under, so they are playing better.

The Royals will start Brady Singer this afternoon and Zach Greinke on Wednesday. They haven't named a starter for Tuesday.

Singer is 8-11, 5.51 ERA. In his last four starts he has been rocked for 20 runs in 18 innings. Opponents hit .414 against him in those 18 innings. He looks to be out of gas after 28 starts and 153 innings. In his last start against the Guardians he went 5 innings allowing 13 hits and 6 runs. For the season opponents are hitting .375 with RISP and .429 with RISP and two out.

Cal Quantrill gets the start for the Guardians. In his three starts since returning from injury Cal has pitched 18 innings allowing only 3 runs for a 1.50 ERA. Looks like some rest did him good.

Logan Allen is 7-7, 3.60. He'll go tomorrow, probably against the Royals' bullpen.

Lucas Giolito is coming off possibly the most impressive start of any Guardians' pitching this year considering he went 7 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 12 against the highest scoring team in the A.L. coming off a four-game sweep of Toronto in which they smashed the Jays 35-9.

Zach Greinke, who will oppose Giolito on Wednesday, is running on fumes. He'll be 40 years old next month. Zach is 1-15, 5.39 ERA for the season. In his last six starts his longest was 4 innings and he has not thrown over 76 pitches. He's given up 20 hits and 9 runs in his last 14 innings. He hasn't last four innings in any of his last three starts. It looks like they just want to get three decent innings out of him.

On paper the Guardians should sweep, but in the last series it looked like Texas would dominate having destroyed the Blue Jays in the previous four games. So you never know. The Royals are a very bad team, however, ranking 25th in scoring, 26th in home runs, 28th in OBP, and 22nd in slugging percentage. The Guardians' staff has owned them, allowing 2.6 runs per game. The Royals rank 28th in ERA so their pitching is even worse than their hitting.

The Guardians swept the Rangers and OSU rolled. If the Browns beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh (for the first time in the regular season in 20 years) this will have been the best sports weekend in NEO in a very long time.

The Guardians hit .349 in the sweep of the Rangers. Let's see if they can keep it going against two right-handed Royals' starters that have been hammered in their last 4-5 starts and against their bullpen tomorrow.

The Royals have three healthy lefties at this point. Cole Ragans is a starter who pitched Saturday and will miss this series. Their two lefty relievers have ERA's of 5.51 and 5.63, so the Royals don't have any good lefties to throw at us which is one reason why we're 7-3 against them.

Will Brennan is hitting .348 in his last 66 at-bats and 20 games. I don't have the data but it looks to me like he's being more patient and not chasing bad pitches early in the count. He looks more relaxed and he's swinging at better pitches. He's not getting himself out by chasing pitches out of the zone with less than two strikes as much.

I hope this is a permanent change and not just a temporary hot streak. The down side is 20 of his 23 hits over that span have been singles and he has no home runs or triples. He also has only three walks, but that's because he's been making contact and putting balls in play. Despite no power and few walks you have to like an on-base percentage of .377 from the #6 or #7 spot in the batting order.

Unfortunately, the same old same old. The club ( sans Ramirez, Kwan, Bo Naylor) needs a plate approach boot camp this winter: discipline, swing decisions, et al. It’s the most pressing issue.

What do you think about Josh Naylor? He chases more than anyone perhaps but he seems to be making it work. Do you mess with what's working while trying to get him to that next level?

Yes. He needs to make better decisions.

Can only have one of Kwan and him in a lineup. If Brennans batting eye from the minors is transitioning to the bigs, maybe this frees the team to trade Kwan, who is hitting arbitration and will now require money to play baseball. Plus Brennan had 56 XBHs last year in the minors, there has to be pop *somewhere* in his bat.

I know it's not a huge deal for us... But Bobby Witt Jr, is trying to get to the 30/30 club with HRs and SBs... Trout and Acuna both did at age 21, but still doing it at 23 is a great feat itself... If he stays healthy, he's definitely going to be an MVP candidate...

Kwan isn't arbitration eligible until 2025....

Brennan has a chance to develop the kind of power seen from Michael Brantley.. imho..

I think you Are right, I always assumed teams don't bring up prospects on Opening Day to avoid arbitration after season 2 but apparently Kwan is at the bottom of the list since he is at exactly 2 years. Which then begs the question of why any team wouldn't start their best prospects on Day 1, since if they thrive, the team is guaranteed 3 full bigleague seasons before arbitration, and if they stumble, they still likely get at least 3 years.

Myles Straw has a chance to develop power like Jose then, because Jose was a straight up slap hitter when he was in the minors and his first season in the bigs. Of course Brennan has a chance, but I don't see how the team can afford to have zero power from the OF for 2-3 years while Brennans power develops.

Teams will slow play some of the better prospects because if done correctly they get 3.5 to 3.75 seasons of very cheap cost production before arbitration raises take over..

The club could also attain a 7th year of club control before the player hits free agency

sort of a dumbass kind of sarcastic remark...

Myles Straw is a slightly built athlete who will NEVER be that guy.. Brennan has the same kind of build as Brantley..
