2024 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I'm guessing he got word from the program that it wasn't cool to be publicizing that news just yet.

But, Clark has developed relationships with a handful of former OSU players the last few years. He probably heard from one of them what was going on and then tweeted that. Can't imagine he just made it up.

What did Ryan Clarks tweet say? Who did he say was coming to OSU?

The tweet saying Cam Ward. I think Ward is leaving Washington St because they basically got relegated to the mountain west when Washington St and Oregon St were the last two teams left in the PAC12.

Air Noland is a high tier name, hope he becomes a great QB.

Fleming never had any big impact games (that I can recall), so I’m not too bothered. Hope in a more featured role he can blossom more.

McCord was next in line and earned his shot, but I don’t think we saw the level of play that’s expected with that receiving corps. Day did well with his last transfer QB, here’s hoping this works out just as well.

Why does college football have a transfer portal that happens before all of the games are over. Why not have the window happen after the championship game? So stupid to have players opting out of programs before they play all of their games.

I think it use to be that way but then players were transferring and coming in late for the start of the semester. Doing it now makes sense so players can move out of their old school go on winter break then head to their new school.

It makes the bowl games and potentially the playoffs meaningless when key players enter the portal or declare for the draft before the game happens and then skip the last game. Next year it'll be really bad. Players who move could be at their new school before their team even plays in the semifinals on the 9th and 10th.

This year Ohio State is losing and recruiting players before they play their last game. Next year after the same season there will still be a playoffs to play. Is there any other sport that lets this kind of thing happen?

I get your point but there's also no other sport where you're truly risking millions of dollars by playing. If you're transferring you're most likely doing it to improve/obtain draft stock. And if you're not playing for a championship and are entering the draft (1-2 rounds) you're just declaring. I think it's just the nature of the beast.b

I think this is more of a problem with the scheduling of the bowl games and playoffs than when players can enter the transfer portal. They are still student athletes so until that changes school is still a priority. You can't have all transfer player miss the first weeks of school because you play a national championship game at the start of the next semester.

If you start the playoffs and bowl games earlier they could potentially interfere with finals week at school. They seem to want to cap off bowl season with the playoffs so it's the give and take of the situation.

The bowl games are seen by a lot of people as meaningless now with the playoffs. I don't think either Mccord or Fleming transfers in this window if they are in the playoffs. Maybe some of the players do but I'm not sure all 11 would. They come to Ohio State to play in the playoffs and try to win a national championship.

But what about next year? There will be a 12 team playoffs. Are players from playoff teams going to enter the portal? Are playoff teams going to recruit from the portal? The 8 team quarterfinals new years eve and New years, the semifinals are Jan 9/10, the championship is Jan 20.

It's like the NBA having free agency while the playoffs are happening.

And the bowl games were always meaningless. Even before the playoffs, it was rare for a single bowl game to decide the national championship. College football should have moved to a playoffs that started when the conference championship games ended decades ago, like every other sport does. Imagine if college basketball did away with march madness to schedule a single random game for each team.

I don't think playoff teams would lose any starters or rotations player to transfers. They would most likely transfer in a different portal window.

Like Texas and Alabama only have 2 players each enter the transfer portal and they seem like guys that didn't play. Michigan has none and I couldn't find a list for Washington.

When do you hear about where transfer portal players are going to go officially?

Also - I'm not sold on Jeremiah Smith staying committed, can't share details but it's a concern.
