2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Orioles just reinstated Bradish and designated our old friend Yohan Ramirez. Is he worth another look?

No, internally we can easily cover bullpen... We can't cover starting pitching right now... He's a reliever...

I was thinking he was used as a starter. I agree that we don't need BP help.

Those "punch and judy" hitters are second in the A.L. in runs per game with everybody except Josh, Kwan, and Fry (in limited action) hitting below expectation.

Our starting center fielder is hitting .198. Our shortstop is hitting .214. Between the two of them they have three home runs. Our right fielders are hitting a combined .204. Bo is hitting .186 and Jose is at .244/.705.

There's a ton of potential for a lot more runs without more home runs. These guys just need to start hitting like they're capable (at least I think Freeman is capable of hitting at least .242/.661 like he did last year).

If Bo Naylor can get back to where he finished last year (.237/.809) and Jose gets back to last year's .282/.831 (a down year for him), this offense would be even more productive than it is now, with only the Orioles averaging more runs per game among A.L. teams.
No, the punch and judy hitters that I'm referring to are holding this offense back. It's good in spite of them, not because they are incorporated in it.

You're damn right there is potential for a lot more runs and they'll have to slug to score more runs. Especially against the good teams.

Bo, Jose, Josh, Estevan, Gabriel, Kyle, Johnathan and Will are all important factors.

These lower BA and increased rate of fly balls likely tie directly into some of these lower BA's of this teams high contact rate hitters.

These are the guys who were often beating out infield singles and slapping the ball to opo fields for singles who are now attempting to pull and elevate the ball as discussed all off-season. There's an inherent sacrifice of average in an attempt to do more DAMAGE TO THE BALL {as became the buzzword all of Spring Training}

This will work itself out in the months and years to come as these young players continue to grow and get back to their high contact roots while still hitting the ball sharply in the air. Come August & September this lineup could be falling into a groove of driving the ball hard, so long as they stick to and evolve with this intended game-plan.

Everyone keeps talking about "what's wrong with Jose?!?!", but I haven't seen 1 person mention how differently he is being pitched this year yet.

Baseball is a game of adjustments. He's going to be fine.

There is times he does need to stop being as aggressive and trying to do too much, but he's always kind of been that way too. He will be fine in the end so I am not worried.

This guy is the goods... BUT... Looks like Manzardo has a good chance to even the score.

So who is the next SP up? Curry has been roughed up a bit, but maybe he was working on something specific. Looking beyond him for a minute I see nobody other than Beede possibly being put into the rotation and that's a bit scary.

how is he being pitched differently? I’m not able to see enough games to get a read

I hesitate to bring this up, but,,,,
Is it time to send Bo Naylor down to AAA for a while to get untracked?
Let's face it. He's not here because of his defense. He's here because he has an interesting bat. But his hitting has been way off so far.
I'm wondering with Vogt, Alomar, and Albernaz if there's too many cooks in the kitchen.
Also, would sending Bo down make Josh grumpy(er).

Why would you send him down?

He's struggling against major league pitching, not minor league pitching. He's only going to figure out the major league pitching by overcoming it.

We also don't really have catching options. Hedges and Fry aren't the guys you want back there every day.
