2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't look at slugging. Slugging isn't real... but Rocchio's slash over the last 7 games
.286.423.333

6 hits 5 walks 4ks 2sb

I'd be extremely happy with that production in the 9 hole. Get on base for Kwan by any means necessary.
I believe we were hoping Myles Straw would do something close to this in the 9 hole... Rocchio is holding it down for sure, and today was a big day for him. They totally disrespected his ability at the plate and he made them pay.

Really all I want out of the 9 hole hitter is some ability to get on base. Pluses include: Some base stealing ability, average to better defense... Some pop would be great, but until he hits a few over the fence...

Brayan is in a really good position to take a step forward right now.

He looks like a different player - more relaxed, composed, and patient at the plate, although he's still not driving the ball into the alleys or the corners like we want. But I agree, in the 9-hole it's all about OBP and then being able to make those left turns at high velocity when Kwan, Andres, Hosey, and Josh find some grass. The walks are really encouraging because it shows he's seeing the ball well and waiting for a good pitch to attack.

The question is whether he can settle in at an OBP of around .340 or so once this hot streak is over.

With Kwan out, I would take that production from the 1 hole right now.

Feels like the starting pitching is being held by the loose change, paper clip, lint, and balled up straw wrapper in your pocket. Honestly don't know how the bullpen remains this incredible, or maybe they just will. Bullpens are always year to year on production. It'll forever be a team's question mark going into the season, and playing through.

The bp has been overworked but they've definitely stepped up and reinforcements are coming with Hetges, Morgan and I think Karinchak eventually

Maybe, but they still need 1 to 2 quality starters if we want to maintain where we are. Allen looks lost every time he gets through the order, Bibee is having his ups and downs, Slim is a whole bucket of unknown at the moment.

I think the Guards are going to really need to give up some pieces for some SP at the deadline, if not sooner. They don't need an ace, although it would be nice, just decent, mlb average quality.

If there is a need for an SP... and assuming the cadre of RP's are going to be burned.. there is a reasonably accepted equation to apply:

2.72 RP's = 1 SP

So.. if there isn't an SP that meets/exceeds the threshold value the CleFO would accept.. an endless revolving door of RP's will be needed to:

-maintain RP freshness
-maintain pitching excellence..

Currently, the Guardians have 10 to 14 RP's that are of ML quality that can be used.. The current group along with Karinchak, Curry, Cantillo, Aleman, Strezlesdhfalkjdsadsfki, Walters, Dion, Parsons & Morgan...

A regular turn in the rotation by a "bullpen group"... coupled with exploitation of the 5 "up/downs" permitted for bus to C-Bus and the Vogt'er should be able to piece together five or six solid starters until the Fab-5 can/will reveal themselves.

Thoughts?

I agree it's time to think about a trade for a quality pitcher who can eat innings. Hard to find with the injuries this year and it's going to be expensive.

We have logjams at a couple different positions. Kwan and Brennan aren't going anywhere any time soon. Gimenez is holding down 2nd for the foreseeable future. Time to consider selling a middle IF, corner OF or a BP arm or two for a starter.

Thank God! Columbus is so desperate for some pitching. Hopefully they use him as a SP.

It's gonna be hard to merit keeping those Akron pitchers at Akron with the way the Columbus crew has been pitching overall... I wouldn't be surprised to see an overhaul at Columbus come a month from now...

What are they doing with Wes Parsons? His Columbus numbers are very good but they haven't been really stretching him out much to be a starter.

If there anything I have learn over the years in the minor leagues , it’s a big jump and talent level to level , if you were to flip the hitter and pitchers at Akron and Columbus , Those pitchers in Akron might not look so good , at the same time we’re gushing over the same pitcher at Columbus killing it at Akron.

Not saying every pitcher and hitter Would flop or excel if roles were reversed, but I’m not just looking at ERA or Hitting Avg to get excited, now if your talking Myles Straw his Stats would probably look the same at every level, lol
