The Red Sox definitely put an All-Star infield out there tonight.
At first base they had Bobby Dalbec, who is 1-for-34 after tonight's game.
At second base they had Enmanuel Valdez, hitting .152 with an on-base percentage below the Mendoza line. He's struck out 22 times in 66 AB's. Also, he failed to turn an easy double play when a perfect throw apparently got stuck in his glove or he failed to get a good grip on the ball. Then in the 8th he allowed Freeman to score from first on a double when once again he couldn't transfer the ball from his glove to his hand successfully.
At shortstop they had the aforementioned outfielder, Rafaela, who is hitting .154 with an OBP of .200. At least he didn't make any errors.
At third they have Pablo Reyes, who came in 8-for-48 with 16 strikeouts.
Who would you rather have at 1B, Josh Naylor or Bobby Dalbec? At second base, Andres Gimenez or Enmanuel Valdez? Rocchio or Rafaela at short? Jose or Pablo Reyes at 3rd?
Hmmm...a lot of tough calls there.
Their outfield is better with O'Neill, Duran, Abreu, and Refsnyder. They're all hitting between .270 and .308. Refsnyder was 3-for-3 tonight to push his average up to .438 (7-for-16). He's 33 with a career BA of .244 and 14 career home runs.
I like their catching with Wong and McGuire. Those a couple of good bats. But their infield is horrid and their bullpen very suspect.
