Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Okay this is the idea...

Rockies need a reboot and we want to upgrade/add talent to our roster...

Cleveland gets
OF Brenton Doyle
SP Ryan Feltner
3B Kyle Karros

Rockies get
OF Valera
SS Rocchio
OF Straw
RP Tanner Burns
RP Lenny Torres

Thoughts @Gson @CDAV45 @petes999 (also Gson, no Romo isn't going to be involved since their catchers are older and likely to be traded, so humor me and look at this deal)

My thought process...

One, Laureano is gone... Doyle takes the OF spot... Valera doesn't have a spot anymore in my mind, so getting a pitcher back for him makes sense...

Now, when it comes to Rocchio, I get he's still a good prospect, but I feel like we need SP help and the choices are few and far between. Feltner has some team control and actually hasn't done bad for the Rockies, but would do better with Cleveland and his price will be high hence why I want to move Straw in the deal...

Rockies then add two at least bullpen arms back in the deal with Torres and Burns... Both likely to make their 25 team out there...

Okay let's say that trade goes through... updated roster would be...

Rotation...

Bibee, Allen, TMac, Feltner, Lively/Carrasco

Bullpen...

Clase, Gaddis, Barlow, Sandlin, Herrin, Lively/Carrasco, Avila, Beede (Smith,Hentges instead?)

Position guys
C Hedges, Naylor, Fry
INF Naylor, Arias, Gimenez, JRam, Schneeman
OF Kwan, Brennan, Freeman, Doyle, Florial

Laureano would be cut... Likely one or both of Beede/Avila would be DFA'D we add Schneeman for bench reason (Aka 13th man on the bench plus he has minor league options)

This I think isn't a great solution but makes us better right now... (plus I feel like Rocchio may need a change of scenery in some ways).

Plus the guys we get have team control, so we don't lose much that way...

I know nothing of Feltner so I'll have to do some research.

Not sure bringing Doyle onboard while Rodriguez is mashing again is a good idea. JRod is potentially our very own Teoscar Hernandez. You got Manzardo raking too and there are plenty of OFers on the 26 man already.

If any of those guys coming from Colorado are worth anything then what you're offering won't get it done. Rocchio has done nothing to maintain his value. The Rockies would demand Arias.

I have Feltner as a BOR that could get to MOR, but no higher... He's a local kid to Northeastern ohio, who likely would be better away from the Rockies... He lost time because of a freak injury were the ball hit his head and fractured his skull... 140+ innings in 22... 95 on his fastball, plus Slider, mixing in a changeup, sinker and random curveball...

He's got a 4.18 FIP pitching for the Rockies... I'll take that as help...

But you are right, what will the Rockies want for him since they don't have to trade him? Neither him nor Doyle are in arbitration yet...

A few notes..

-Feltner may be better away from Coors.. that's always a possibility..
-Brenton Doyle has come out of the gate in 2024 with an excellent showing.. he's certainly worth watching..
-Karros is a legacey (his dad was Eric Karros of the Dodgers).. he's got a great arm and not much else.. He may grow into becoming a ML'er.. but, he's a corner IF'er right now without the power profile.. at least not yet..

-Throwing Straw into the deal makes the Guardians happy.. no one else in the deal will be..
-Valera and Torres are both "risers" as far as ML level talent is concerned.. So it Tanner to a lesser extent..

The Rockies would pass unless Straw is omitted..
The Guardians should select other Rockies and Rockie Prospects not named Romo..

I can deal with Straw not being in the deal... and Karros is just essentially a PTBNL so I am sure that can be changed...

My goal is to get Feltner and Doyle while having the deal around Valera, Rocchio plus two pitchers from the 20/21 draft in a sense, that aren't Nikhazy...

I think I prefer to give Eric Lauer a call and see if he's interested. No idea what he's doing these days.

by conspicuous omission, the other Rockie potential players/prospect in a possible deal don't exist.. No further discussion needed..

Pitching for the Pirates AAA team...
Thanks, I didn't realize that. Turns out he's pitching well for the Pirates AAA team too. I wonder if he has an opt out?

He shouldn't be expensive to pick up, so I feel like IF he was an option, we would have gotten him already...

Hard to say who is an option and who isn't. It could be that they haven't even thought about Lauer or it could be that they're not interested. I don't see how the latter would be the case seeing how his upside is better than 2/3 of our current rotation. He's only 28 so he could be a good pickup. Problem is the Pirates probably feel the same which is why they picked him up.

I'll be sincere, IF he was an option, we would have already picked him up...This FO doesn't sit on their hands to get guys IF they are in the price range they have set for them...

You can speculate all you want Coach, but that's all it is. You have no definitive answers so do us both a favor and don't act like you do. It's ok to say "I don't know" on matters such as these. I know I sure as hell don't. It would be nice to have some insight, but here we are...measly forum posters.

Edited to say that we don't even know that they haven't already talked to the Pirates about Lauer. Maybe they have and the Pirates were either asking too much or weren't interested in moving him.

For some, those are the hardest three words in the English language.

Among those in the know on most topics, "I don't know, let me find out" is the quickest way to earn someone's trust.
