#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Ohio I'd say that's all fair. He didn't jump off the screen in any capacity yesterday, outside of recovering a fumble. I didn't intend to come to the site today to discuss Peppers, but I also think the bashing from the one specific poster has gone to a level of unfair and malicious. On top of that, the poster is making things up about the guy's character. I'm gonna call that out.
Completely agree...it's what led me to bumping this thread.

Williams isn't using him correctly.

Yeah, his returns have been mediocre. Definitely thought that would translate well.

Definitely better than last year when he was 30 yards off the line. Not writing him off. But if Gregg won't keep him towards the los and blitz him in the run and pass, then he's just another guy.

No doubt...

I'll admit, one of the things that really annoyed me about the pick was the notion that he could play multiple positions. Because, watching him in College, I absolutely knew that was complete bullshit. There is one and only one position that he can play and that is an in the box safety (or a 4th LB in certain unique formations). His skillset is limited...however, when used correctly, he can still be a decent player and I think that has been the case so far this year.

Greggggggggg lined him up deep a few times again yesterday (including one deep pass play where Peppers got over too late) and it drives me fucking crazy. He never should have played a snap at deep safety in his life and he should never play a snap there again.

@The Oi you have something to say?

Ok look....the "entitled" jab was made up. Fine. I have found most Michigan graduates and fans entitled, so I can only assume the athletes are as well. You can have that point. The rest of it though goes into column Orange. Peppers had a dismal rookie year, and he again had some screw ups yesterday. He has 15 games to turn it around.

I want Peppers to be good. But he has been pretty ass outside of Week 17 against the Steelers backups.

I loved the pick. Got to watch him his whole college career.

Really smart kid. Learned both offense and defense playbook in hs and in college (Was an article written can't find it). But, yes, he is limited to the los to maximize his strengths and mitigate his weaknesses. He actually played cb his freshman year but bulked up and had to switch positions once he did.

I was so excited when we picked him because Williams came with the moniker of utilizing his safeties really well. I really don't know wth Gregg is doing. He's doing this team a disservice with this "angel" role regardless of who he puts back there. And now that peppers is in a more suitable ss role, he needs to be a free range ss within 10 yards of the los.

Peppers had a really poor season in 2017 at free safety. @Mr. Orange isnt wrong about that.

That said, to my untrained eyes he’s looked much more competent at strong safety throughout the preseason and in week 1.

I’m not writing him off as a total bust. It’s clear he isn’t going to have a lot of success as a deep free safety, but we’ll see how he performs this season when he’s closer to the line.

Peppers was only on the field for 42% of the defensive snaps. Kindred got 74.

5 defensive backs played at least 62% of the defensive snaps. Interestingly enough it appears that comes at the expense of the defensive tackle position and not linebacker. We only played 2 true DTs all game and Coley only played half the snaps.

It did look like he was cramping a couple times, so I'm not sure if that will be a normal snap split or not. I would suspect not.
