A Closer Look at Andrew Wiggins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sam The Bullshit Whisperer is saying the Cavs are leaning towards Wiggins at the moment in his weekly chat.

Also, says one scout thinks Wiggins will be Corey Brewer.

His handle looks tight to me and it will get better over time. Handles are one thing that tend to increase directly with experience. A broken jump shot may never be fixed. Unathleticism can't be fixed. Height can't be fix. But handles improve over time. James is the perfect example of that. His handle was very sloppy coming into the league. They tried to turn him into a Magic Johnson type point forward right in his rookie season, because his passing skills were so good, but his handle just wasn't up to the task. I remember instances in his rookie year when a good defender like Baron Davis would guard him and he'd be completely bottled up or turning it over just trying to bring the ball up the court.

LeBron James probably hasn't dribbled like that since he was 8 years old.

I know offensive positions are increasingly blurry, but Wiggins simply isn't a SF. His length and athleticism will allow him to guard most (not all) SFs, but he really can't function as a prototypical SF on offense. He's gonna be a transition monster, spot up ace, and a great cutter. But I'd feel more confident if Waiters had the ball in the half court. And Irving of course.

What? That is a prototypical SF. Spot up, run the floor, cut to the rim, play defense.

Handles look sloppy to me and the video above is a workout video designed to showcase his positive abilities and cover up his weaknesses. If you really watch game tape of him you see him missing a ton of layups and attempting to use the same move over and over again to create separation. Like many critics lately he was able to use his athletic ability to get by but when you get to the Nba I really think he will be in for a hard first few seasons.

I think the kid will be special but to me he is not worthy of the number one pick and I really think he is going to struggle next year with the criticism and pressure to live up to the hype.

He will be "special" but not worthy of #1 pick. You must have unreal expectations for a #1 pick. LeBron is a once in a generation talent. If our #1 pick is deemed SPECIAL, that is a resounding success.

Unless you're telling me Jabari is going to be transcendent. Then I'd just think you were out of your mind.

Might want to go take a look at Oladipo's workout video from last year to gauge how handles with nobody guarding you translate to the NBA. I'd love to see Wiggins go through this same stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk4XNbRYhKA

Um. If this is implying Wiggins will struggle, see the Sportscience Video on Wiggins. Does Oladipo also have a stride length a foot longer than the taller Kevin Durant? Which let's Wiggins glide downcourt?

Does Oladipo also have the ability to get to the rim from 3pt line in 2 steps? Dribble step step. No?

Does Oladipo run at full tilt at 20mph (in game) which Wiggins does? Which is as fast as Cp3?

Does Oladipo have the ability to get (with length considered and leaping) over 12 feet in the air, and able to cover more area for rebounding than most NBA Centers by 8% (same area Lebron Covers).

I kinda doubt it.

Parker can take his vibes to Milwuakee, do not want.

I said in another thread. I don't get this Milwaukee thing. I'm assuming Agents are telling them what to do and manipulating. His Agent I think is Rich Paul. Who has his freakin office in Cleveland. Has few Clients but does have Lebron, and Tristan Thompson. I don't really get. Unless maybe as a Lebron Cronie Lebron actually would play with a Kyrie Wiggins team? But who knows.

Are the Cavs really going to spend a third top pick (second number one) in three consecutive years on the same position (power forward), each really a tweener, while failing to address the 3 at all?

Parker really is not expected to guard the 3.

Recent tweets summary: Chad Ford now predicts Wiggins to Cleveland after his source talked about the alleged Cavs fight last night between owner and GM; says last year Gilbert wanted Oledipo and GM wanted Bennett; and says Wiggins the better fit should LeBron come back.

Per Stein: Parker said not opposed to going to Cleveland, but thinks he's going to go to the Bucks due to vibe he felt there, but did not feel with Cleveland.
Alledged fight..interesting, sometimes we hear things after the draft that shed light on conflict regarding the selections so I won't entirely dismiss this.
It could be more of a debate and not a fight.

As far as Parker goes, saying the vibe was not as strong as Mil, does that match how his workout went? Did he expect them to be excited if he looked like he didn't want to be there working out for them??

We are not the talent experts. If we were, we'd all have jobs in the league.

Who cares?

Our new GM said he wanted the pieces to fit. Drafting Parker would make him seem like the biggest con man in the front office. Of course trades could always happen but Bennett and Thompson don't have really high value. Plus on the mental side, having 3 Canadians boosts morale among them. People underrate that aspect. Read about the Spurs and how their international players get along. Ginobili and Belinelli speak Italian to each other during practice and help each other with translations, etc. Varejao got along with Z when he was young and that helped him improve. Off the court relationships can translate to ones on the court.

Having three polite Canadians would all but guarantee any drama between Irving and Waiters would vanish
