A Closer Look at Kyrie Irving

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here's my question. If Kyrie had come out in last years draft, just for the fun of it, where do you think he would go? The top 10 looked like this:

1. John Wall
2. Evan Turner
3. Derrick Favors
4. Wesley Johnson
5. Demarcus Cousins
6. Epke Udoh
7. Greg Monroe
8. Al-Forouq Aminu
9. Gordon Hayward
10. Paul George

Just tell me where you'd place Kyrie, and even TT for that matter, cause I'm kinda curious.
Are you talking about in that order or are we allowed to re-order?

If we can re-order, I'd take Wall and probably Favors above him. I'd take the prior two plus Cousins, Monroe, and Turner at minimum above TT.

If I had to rank all of the guys coming out of college, my top 10 would look like:
1. John Wall
2. Evan Turner
3. Derrick Favors
4. DeMarcus Cousins
5. Kyrie Irving
6. Greg Monroe
7. Wesley Johnson
8. Paul George
9. Tristan Thompson
10. Al-Farouq Aminu
11. Gordon Hayward
12. Ekpe Udoh

Was never a big fan of either wes johnson or udoh, given the age of both players and udoh's completely one dimensional game. If I had to rerank them all after watching them play as rookies, I'd take Kyrie over evan turner and possibly gordon hayward over tristan thompson. monroe also may have snuck past cousins on my board.

reasons why I wouldn't put kyrie higher: favors is an elite big man athlete, teams would roll the dice on his upside most times. also, turner was one of the most accomplished college players over the last few years, don't forget that just because he was very underwhelming as a rookie. and potential 20/10 guys like cousins aren't made available very often.

I see Kyrie going from 2-6. Anywhere in between. I feel like ET would go ahead of Kyrie because he did tear up in college, I also think Favors could POSSIBLY go ahead of Kyrie, I dont like Wesley Johnson but I think Kyrie could fall below Demarcus Cousins maybe.

All in all I believe he would probably be number 3, but its tough to tell.

I could see sacto going with kyrie to pair with Evans

From The Sydney Morning Herald june 25-26 2011:

Kyrie Irving, who went number one in the NBA draft, on which country he will play for: "You know, it would be great to play for my country, which is primarily Australia, so, I was born there and want to represent Australia. I have dual citizenship with Australia and America. I want to be claimed by Australia." Mate, consider yourself claimed. Good on you.

Only Wall, Turner, and Favors would go ahead imo. But I think Kyrie going to be better than Favors and Turner.

Canada will take him if Prisoner's Island doesn't want him. He'd easily be our best player, even if he was a complete and utter failure he would still be our best player.

I can't see Philly passing on him for Turner. At the draft last year they had no real PG on their team (Holiday looked decent, but a team with the second pick needs every thing) where as Iggy was/is a good SG and it is his natural position. Plus they had Young at SF and by drating Irving it wouldn't unbalance the minutes the way drafting Turner did.

It's impossible to guess who would draft who when you look at team needs and everything, but if I was rating the players I would have Irving right behind John Wall. I wouldn't have Thompson in the top 10.

All that matters is that guys will get the ball when their supposed to with the right touch as opposed to the herky jerky non rythm projectiles sessions calls a pass.

irving will also use judgement when he attacks the basket not just attack attack attack or three pointer three pointer three pointer.

and as much as i harped on irvings questionable defense . it will be an improvement from sessions.

Cavs can probably even establish a half court game.

Very good point. I wasn't sure how high they were on Holiday.

Holiday is a good player, but I don't think he really became their "PG of the future" until after this draft occured. I could be wrong though, I am not a big Philly fan, but from my memory I can't remember any Jrue Holiday talk of being a good PG.

Dude tore up in the playoffs though.

Well if you want to go back six years of number 4 picks.
Chris Paul - There were no chris paul caliber players available for this years draft at 4
Tyrus Thomas - Ill put Tristan ahead of Tyrus.
Mike Conley - This pick has turned out well for Memphis. After the top 3 no really big stars in this draft unless you want to count Noah. which I wouldnt despite being a good player
Russell Westbrook - This was a very Deep Draft
Tyreke Evans - another Guard filled draft.
Wesley Johnson- In forward heavy Draft. Tristan rates favorably with Favors who was taken before wesley., Tristan doesnt seem like a drop talentwise compared to Favors, Cousins and Monroe.
